Hey everyone,

We are starting to consider what credit card would be the best fit for our business expenses. Currently, we easily spend $50K in materials for work and we are looking to put that on credit in order to gain rewards. Our goal is to pay off the balance immediately to maximize the benefits.

One option we are not interested in is travel rewards, as we do not travel frequently. Additionally, we do not shop at Loblaws or any PC locations, which are popular destinations for credit card rewards.

roger’s world elite master for everyday purchases and the occasional going to the states. 2% cashback on everything if you have a service with shaw, fido, or rogers. 3% cashback on USD purchases but the forex fee will eat up 2.5%. You net 0.5%. No Annual fees.

There’s no perfect credit card rewards. It caters to each person’a preferences. I will always go with AMEX because I spend a lot AND travel. Their reward system is top tier.

If you know how to maximize the earnings of points and points worth/value for redemption , get a rewards points one. If rewards points are too complicated, use cash back.

Example the Rogers World Elite MC 1.5% has cash back on everything including Costco and 3% on the US purchase. No annual fee. You will get perks if you’re a Rogers customer too.

There is Canadian Tire Elite MC. If you shop at CT all the time it’s a no brainer.

    Cash back

If you dont care for it then probably cashback cards like Rogers world elite or mastercard.

Can run on a [calculator](https://app.finlywealth.com/calculator). Filter to cashback only. Amex cobalt could also still beat other cards on redeeming points for cash in some scenarios. The calculator would show it.

Any free card that gives you cash back during the year… eg, applied to monthly balance.

If you fly (mainly domestic and to the US), the Aeroplan cards from AMEX, CIBC or td works really good.

  • don242

Just be aware that using a personal card for work purchases is against most T&Cs and could end up with the card closed.

West Jet MC. We travel a lot.
If Canadian Tire offered Visa I’d get one.

  • ochief19

    I have a few:

Amex Marriott — I use this for offers, free Marriott night and when I travel to Marriott hotels for work

Aeroplan infinite privilege visa— the high cost is worth it for the high spend I put on it and the extra 25% multiplier of aeroplan miles.

Usually a floater card for sign up rewards or extras.

  • bspaghetti

I’m not sure how she does it, but my wife got us a $30k honeymoon, almost entirely for free by leveraging Marriott points we collected for 3 years.

  • zepharoz

It depends on how much you spend and whether you value the point system versus the cash back.

For all round general purpose: BMO world elite MasterCard. Just put everything you ever spend onto it. It’s decent for serving what you need. MBNA world elite is another solid choice also. Both these cards is at $120 annual fee though.

For cash back and no annual fees, you really only have a few options: tangerine (3 diffident categories at 2% each), Rogers (2% if you have a service with them under your name, otherwise 1.5%)

Honorable mentions: triangle world elite (Canadian tire), Brim world MasterCard

Note that Costco accepts MasterCard only. Note that if you are churning for points, this reply is not meant for you.

Ideally you’d want 2-4 cards so that you can min max there spending on specific categories.

Rogers & PC financial ( for impactful or good day to day savings ).

  • CommanderJMA

Amex gets the best cash back.

Costco credit card is best for food

TD aeroplan is the most bougie but worth it if you want to travel a lot
