## Confusion Over Child Maintenance Arrangements in England

Hinall.. Sorry for the question and obviously delete if not applicable

I’m in England for clarity

I have 2 kids. 15 and 19. The 15 year old is at school the 19 year old at uni

According to the govt Web site

“You need to have child maintenance arrangements for children under 16 (or under 20 if they’re in approved education or training). Therefore maintenance must be paid up until the child’s 16th birthday or 20th birthday depending on their education or training status.”

And to me that’s just vague. Also I thought was upnton18 or when they left formal education.

So if my 15 year old doesn’t go to college or university do I stop at 16? Or 20?

Do I pay for my 19 year old at university (obviously I’m not a tool so I’m sending her the money ey I used to send the ex wife so she can eat and socialise at uni)

It’s just woded a bit vaguely and if there’s anyone else who can clarify it for me that would be great

Edit cos I can’t spell

You have to pay for the 19 year old as long as her mother gets child benefit for her

15 year old you need to pay to mum
19 year old is at uni so that doesn’t fall under CMS. Uni education doesn’t count (if it’s not further education, but higher education) For good dad points, I’d say give her pocket money anyway, but from a legal perspective you’re not obliged to.
