In a move aimed at nurturing innovative ideas and transforming them into sustainable businesses, Valdosta State University (VSU) has forged a significant partnership with Hwashin Georgia. This collaboration is designed to empower student-led ventures, ultimately enriching the local business landscape and promoting entrepreneurship within the academic community.

Recently, Hwashin Georgia took a substantial step by donating $10,000 to enhance the J. Donald Lee Center for Entrepreneurship’s annual Business Plan Competition. This competition invites participation from all VSU students, irrespective of their major field of study or prior business experience. Over the course of several weeks, students engage in a rigorous process to develop a comprehensive understanding of what constitutes a successful business plan. They learn critical elements of creating a business plan while receiving invaluable feedback from experienced industry leaders. Moreover, participants stand the chance to win seed funding that can pave the way for turning their innovative ideas into tangible realities.

“This competition not only helps students acquire real-world experience but also enhances their entrepreneurial skills,” stated Dr. Byeonghwa Park, who serves as an assistant professor of management and the director of the J. Donald Lee Center for Entrepreneurship at VSU’s Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration. “Additionally, it fosters engagement between students and industry leaders, presenting them with opportunities to connect with potential employers like Hwashin.”

Details of the Business Plan Competition

Applications for this year’s highly anticipated Business Plan Competition at the J. Donald Lee Center for Entrepreneurship will open in November. Students will have nearly three months to register for the event and submit their initial business concepts. The final phase of the competition is scheduled for April, when the finalists will present their detailed business plans to a distinguished panel of judges, marking a pivotal moment in their entrepreneurial journeys.

Hwashin Georgia: A Company Committed to Growth and Innovation

Founded in Korea in 1975, Hwashin is a specialized manufacturer dedicated to producing chassis and body parts for automobiles. After successfully establishing operations in Greenville, Alabama, in 2003, the company is now channeling its efforts into a significant new investment in Dublin, Georgia. With plans to commence mass production by December 2025, Hwashin is positioned to contribute significantly to the region’s economic landscape.
