### National Small Business Week Features City of Madison’s Business Support Programs

As part of National Small Business Week, the City of Madison’s Economic Development Division is showcasing the various programs and resources available to local business owners through the Office of Business Resources.

The City of Madison’s Small Business Equity and Recovery (SBER) program was established to provide assistance to small, independent businesses owned by historically disadvantaged individuals. In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, SBER offered grants of up to $5,000 to businesses that experienced losses of $5,000 or more, as well as funding to cover the costs of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for employees.

Following the conclusion of the original SBER program with the conclusion of ARPA funding, additional financial support was approved by the City of Madison’s Common Council and Mayor for a modified SBER program. This revised program incorporates many of the small business initiatives offered by the Office of Business Resources throughout the city.

Sash-A Restoration, a local business specializing in window restoration and owned by women, minorities, and veterans, is one of the successful participants in the SBER program. Located on Atwood Avenue, the business received a total grant of $1,063 in 2021 through the program.
