NMC Small Business Development Center Network Team Recognized for Contributions to Local SBDC Network
Nadine Deleon Guerrero, Mercilynn Kaneshi Palec, and Benjamin Huk Borja from CNMI Small Business Development Center Network at Northern Marianas College were recently honored for their outstanding contributions to their local SBDC network through America’s SBDC 40 Under 40 awards. This prestigious awards program shines a spotlight on individuals under the age of 40 who have had a significant impact on their local networks and the overall business landscape.
The America’s SBDC 40 Under 40 awards are organized by the America’s Small Business Development Center network, which consists of over 1,000 local service centers. Out of the numerous nominees, only 40 winners were selected by a panel of judges from the America’s SBDC Millennial Interest Group. These winners were chosen for their exceptional business acumen, innovative thinking, and dedication to driving growth and success.
The recognition of Nadine, Mercilynn, and Huk is a testament to their hard work and dedication to serving the business community in CNMI. Nadine Deleon Guerrero, the CNMI SBDC network director, holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications with a double emphasis in Public Relations and Mass Media from the University of Guam. She also obtained a master’s degree in Public Administration from UOG. Prior to her current role, Nadine served as the chairwoman of the CNMI Cannabis Commission board and played a key role in establishing the Commonwealth’s cannabis industry. With over 22 years of professional experience, including 10 years in the construction industry, Nadine brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her position.
Mercilynn Kaneshi Palec, the CNMI SBDC associate network director, earned her associate degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in education and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Northern Marianas College. She also holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Guam. Before joining the SBDC team, Mercilynn served as an administrator/coordinator for the Saipan Chamber of Commerce and managed a successful home-based ecommerce business for more than a decade. Her diverse background and experience have equipped her with valuable skills to assist small businesses in the CNMI.
Benjamin Huk Borja, the Tinian SBDC director/business advisor, holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Guam. Born and raised in Tinian, he has extensive work experience in various sectors, including manual labor in a family-owned business, sales in a large retail company, and management and operations in an investment fund company. Benjamin’s broad range of experience allows him to offer comprehensive guidance and assistance to small businesses in Tinian.
