Given the sensitive nature of my role, I aim to maintain open communication with individuals under my supervision. I encourage them to ask questions and seek clarification on their legal obligations. Just want to say thanks for what you do and being reasonable. When I got accepted into law school, my PO was supportive and told me that maybe it was going to take someone who was impacted by these laws to change them. That wasnÔÇÖt really my goal at the time, though. But he helped me navigate through some tough spots, and I was grateful for him strange as it might sound.

He was one of the people I credit with taking a chance on me, and that allowed me to have the life I have today. So you might not always see the difference you make in the long run by treating people decent, but itÔÇÖs there. Thank you.

    Do you support the registry?

As someone who has just started probation and is yet to meet my PO, whats the best way of getting on my PO’s good side / making their job easier? i want to get past this part of my life as smoothly as possible

Do you find the SO cases to be easier or less troublesome than other cases?

  • Formal_Arachnid3391

I just have general questions, but since going into this field, have you had a significant change in how you view sex offenders in general?

WhatÔÇÖs your least favorite, and favorite part of your job?

Did you originally want to supervise sex offenders or did it happen because of a rotation policy within the department?

  • rapidfruit

What are the various attitudes people in your field have towards the offenders they are supervising?

IÔÇÖve always wondered what the officers who come through our house think of me and my husband. I know it doesnÔÇÖt really matter, but it makes me sad sometimes, because I can imagine judgment, satisfaction, or indifference that doesnÔÇÖt take into account the fact that weÔÇÖre a lot more than his crime.

Ok. I have heard POs in different areas may have different rules. I guess it could also be because they have great BS meters. While I have been off paper for years, I keep my nose clean. Thank you for being here. Hopefully you can help some. Best advice I can give is just follow the rules.

I know rules/laws vary from state to state, but what are the most common mistakes SOs make while on probation?

  • Diligent_Rip_4934

I wanted to add to another person’s question.
You said that you somewhat support the registry.

Do you think it should be public information?

  • rebuildingnormal

What do you think of spouses/significant others who are sticking with their loved one? Have you seen a difference in those who have support from loved ones and family versus those without?

  • SonOfDayman

Do You suppose there will ever be any reform on central NCs insistence that an employer who would otherwise hire someone has to be notified of convictions..

Seems so counter productive and if the employer isn’t a location that would be restricted for the Person.. what is the point?

I know my PO says it’s the worst part of their job… calling.

Also.. is that a rule everywhere in NC? Because it seems that it only pertains to Central NC probation offices.. anecdote anyway..

  • SimonSays67

IÔÇÖm tier 1, non-contact in PA. IÔÇÖve been off probation for 2 years but am still on the registry. Apparently, a few months ago in PA a judge struck down the registry here. The state is appealing. Have you heard any more about that?

My boyfriend and I were considering moving to NC. Any chance you could be his p.o.? Hes in the registry in florida for a consensual relationship he had in high school and his p.o. down here is VERY understanding and helpful and he’s so worried to move because he’s scared he’ll get a p.o. who’s out to ruin his life for being on the registry.

  • scottms927

    What part of NC?

  • medio_gringo

Have you ever had someone under your supervision become a target due to the registry?

  • runningtoleave

Have you or your colleagues ever had someone that was not a US citizen, basically a green card holder. How long were they under your supervision before they were picked up by ICE or were they allowed to stay?

  • EnvironmentalUse2070

How does it work when you want to move to nc from a different state

  • Dry-Algae-7459

A member of my extended family was convicted of rape a few months ago in VA IÔÇÖm trying to figure out what the sexual registry will look like. How are levels addressed? Sometimes it seems like charge alone and other sites it seems like number of convictions vs risk of reoffending. Does that get taken into consideration of if youÔÇÖre convicted for a felony rape charge youÔÇÖre automatically level/tier 3?

  • SeniorEscobar

What’s going on with NC halfway houses? My LO is supposed to go to one soon but was recently told they are being closed due to mismanagement? Tia

  • thebeardedbrony

Do you believe ANY Federal RSO can get off of Lifetime Supervision and removed from the Registry? From what I’ve been told, none have been removed from either.

  • WayNo7719

How would you treat a 21 year old compared to an older person?

  • Hope4777

I am asking for a family member, he is federal case. We all know PO wants or encourages SO to find a job in the probation after the prison time, if the job is located in another country and that country has no problem to let the SO in, is there any chance the Judge would grant the SO permission to go to that country to take the job based on your understanding and experience?

  • ViewOne5960

Who usually gets polygraph results? Why do some tell the probationers and others donÔÇÖt? my son took his 6th maintenance poly but wasnÔÇÖt told anything.. itÔÇÖs a new PO and new polygraph er itÔÇÖs been a week no call from Po with results either..

  • CarpenterFormer1034

My husband is a RSO in Alabama and every time he goes in to register they tell him of new requirements and act like they want to violate him on something he did now know. They say the laws are constantly changing  where can we find all the dos and donts  not just about registrations?
