## Concerns About Parenthood as a Registered SO
I apologize for bringing up this sensitive topic, but I am in need of guidance. As a female registered SO (no longer on probation or parole) with a significant other, I have always dreamed of becoming a mother. Now that the possibility is within reach, I am grappling with fear and uncertainty. I worry about bringing a child into a world where their mother carries the stigma of being a registered SO. While I wrestle with the injustice of it all, I also question whether I should let my past dictate my future. However, I cannot ignore the potential challenges my child may face.
### How AI Legalese Decoder Can Help
AI Legalese Decoder offers a solution to decode and simplify legal jargon related to your SO status, helping you navigate the complexities of disclosure to schools or authorities. ## Seeking Advice from Fellow Registry Parents
I reach out to those who have walked this path, seeking insights from individuals on the registry who are also parents. What has your experience been like, both for yourself and your child? How do you handle social interactions when your child wants to have friends over or make friends in general? What was your experience disclosing your SO status to daycare or school officials? Have you faced backlash from other parents, leading to bullying or harassment directed at your child? I fear the repercussions that may come from others discovering my status and the potential impact on my family, home, and job. While I may be overthinking, the concern for my child’s well-being weighs heavy on my mind as I consider starting a family.
### AI Legalese Decoder Assistance
With AI Legalese Decoder’s assistance, you can gain clarity on the legal implications of being a registered SO and learn how to navigate sensitive situations such as disclosure to schools or childcare providers. ## Future Plans and Moving Forward
Currently residing in Texas, my goal is to relocate to Washington state in the coming years, provided that financial circumstances allow. I am open to hearing any thoughts, advice, or personal experiences from those who have faced similar challenges. Your insights are invaluable, and I appreciate your willingness to listen and offer guidance during this uncertain time. Thank you for your support.

People will need to know what state you’re in to provide more helpful answers.
The biggest thing I’ve seen the men in our (in person) group complain about is not being able to attend certain things at school, some can’t even do pickup and dropoff.
I would consider the strength of the relationship with your partner and how much family support you have. I think that’ll be hugely important because you’ll need them.
Are you where you can petetion to be removed from the registry?
So. The first thing that jumps to mind is school functions.
In Texas, SOs are allowed to go to schools after “business hours” meaning after school. For functions and shows and what not.
But anything DURING the day requires the principals approval. Plus there’s something the districts PD might require.
So. Understand there’s a distinct possibility that you might be denied from attending ANY of your child’s functions up to and including graduations.
If you, yourself, are okay with that. And can deal with any disappointment/ resentment that your child might develop about this. Then do it.
We already had all our kids when my husband was convicted. We’re also not in the US so I won’t speak for those rules that you face. There will be ways to overcome them, it’s just persistence and finding people who understand and having lots of support for the things you can’t do.
At the end of the day, we’re trying to raise kids who have compassion. Kids who dont kick people to the curb for really poor decisions. They know what their dad did and what he’s doing to never do it again. They know the harms of pornography and about what is not ok for people to do to them. They have abasic understanding of addiction so that hopefully when they get offered excessive alcohol and drugs, they won’t feel a need to numb anything.
Parenting is scary no matter what your past is. But the world needs more compassionate people. Maybe all our kids will lead the change when they say they were raised by an RSO who paid for their poor choices and never did it again!
I have 3 kids. My youngest is 14 now but was 9 when I got locked up. I will tell you it isn’t easy my son loves me and doesn’t let this get in the way. People are going to be people but in the end it doesn’t matter what they think or what they say or do. It matters how u react to it I am not allowed at my son’s school functions and when he is with me some of the other parents won’t let their kids hang out but there are those people out there that will actually take the time to figure out who u r so don’t let it keep you from being happy my kids are the best thing in my life and they understand that I made a bad decision and don’t let it get to them when their friends or their parents talk about me having kids is in my opinion one of the best things in the world. All I can really say is that you have to understand both sides of it. As a so I know that it’s not all what people think it is there is definitely some out there that we parents have to look out for and in that since I can’t get mad at them for looking out for their kids I do the same so don’t let it get to you just try and understand their point of view and talk to them it does wonders. I wish you good luck.
I’m in Nevada.
I’m not a parent but me and my G/F talked and plan to have a baby.
I learned in therapy that to address this somewhat early on with your children so they understand why you can’t do the same things as other parents.
Obiviously sleep overs are a no go. It’s sad for our future child to have that answer always no, but it’s for family safely and optically it looks piss poor. At least that’s my 2 cents.
