Title: Westpac Banking Issues: Inadequate Home Loan Rate Disclosure and Unresponsiveness
Introduction:
Westpac, a renowned Australian bank, has fallen short of expected customer service standards. As my current home loan term is nearing its end within less than 60 days, an urgent issue has emerged – Westpac has failed to provide timely updates on new home loan rates. Frustrated by their lack of action and contradictory responses, I attempted to seek resolution through multiple channels, but to no avail.
Inefficiencies in Rate Disclosure:
On my initial contact with Westpac, just a day before the 60-day deadline, I was informed that the updated rates would be made available on their app after the 60-day mark. However, more than a week has passed, and the rates haven’t materialized. To compound the issue, when I reached out to Westpac once again, I received the perplexing response that rate updates are exclusively rolled out on Thursdays. Such a restrictive and backward practice is incongruous with the modern era, leaving customers hanging in uncertainty for extended periods.
Lack of Responsiveness:
During my call with Westpac, I was informed about the option to request rates via email. Eager to explore this avenue, I promptly sent an email seeking the desired information. However, disappointment followed as Westpac failed to respond to my inquiry. It is disheartening to have faith in a communication channel only to be met with silence.
Superficial Communication:
As if the lack of response to email communication weren’t disappointing enough, Westpac further aggravated the situation by sending me a physical letter informing me of my renewal and advising me to visit their website for rate offers. The irony of receiving a letter suggesting an online solution for a problem caused by their online portal is baffling.

I just refixed with them online. I don’t know if they prompted me exactly 60 days out, it would have been something like that. Is it that urgent?
Just refixed with them. No issues. Made an appointment and saw a mortgage manager in person since we weren’t simply re-fixing. Pretty sure it showed up in the app 30 days in advance.
Their home loan rates are on their website.
If you log in to WestpacOne, you’ll be able to see your existing mortgage(s), and any eligible mortgages to refix rates. Given how often the rates change, it doesn’t really make much difference if they are updated weekly or fortnightly, does it? I don’t understand how this is a big issue, two months before you need to refix.
I’ve managed to refix slightly longer than 60 days before too. Not using the app, just going to Westpac directly
I work to a 30 day lead time and didn’t know some banks work to 60 days.
I’ve always had open and easy dealings with Kiwibank, and don’t understand people’s obsession with the Aussie banks.
I think ASB was 30 days online
Are your lending and security both under personal names?
