Rebekah Elliott Opens Nail Nook: A Cozy and Personal Salon

SHELBY ÔÇö Rebekah Elliott was looking for a nook. “I didn’t want a big nail salon,” she said. “I just wanted something small, even something small enough for just myself, big enough for maybe one or two other people.”

She found just the place at 10 Central Ave., just off Shelby’s downtown. Elliott and about a dozen others gathered Friday morning for a ribbon-cutting for the Nail Nook, a business she will run with partner Dorian Regedanz.

The location used to house a tanning salon.

Elliott graduated from Apex Academy in 2018 as a licensed cosmetologist. She worked at a couple of salons and decided she wanted to focus on doing nails.

Both Nail Technicians at the Nail Nook Graduated from Apex Academy

Like Elliott, Regedanz graduated from Apex Academy.

“I decided to stay in the area,” the Celina native said. “I got into contact with Bekah, and we just kind of hit it off. She said she had everything ready, so I joined her.”

Regedanz talked about the advantages of having one’s nails done.

“The biggest thing it does is boost your confidence,” she said. “Once you have a good set of nails on, you’re always feeling your best, and you’re looking beautiful.”

A pink neon sign on the wall of the business says, “Babe, you look cool.” Those attending Friday’s ribbon-cutting were treated to doughnuts, muffins, and orange juice.

The ribbon-cutting moved outside. “It’s perfect in the shade. We picked the right time of the day,” Shelby Mayor Steve Schag said, referencing temperatures that were predicted to reach the 90s.

Schag welcomes what he called another “niche” business to the community.

“I’m not in the market for nails, but everyone else, we encourage you to visit,” the mayor said.

The Nail Nook will be open Tuesday through most Fridays. Elliott and Regedanz will work similar hours that will vary slightly.

Elliott will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, from 9 a.m. or noon until 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every other Friday.

Regedanz will work 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, somewhere between 9 a.m. and noon to 7 or 8 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 2 or 3 p.m. Friday.
