**Title: Navigating Child Support Challenges across State Borders: How AI Legalese Decoder Can Assist**

**Introduction**

Back in 2016, I went through a divorce in Virginia (VA) where the final decree acknowledged that my child support obligations would end when my youngest child reached 19 years of age or graduated from high school, whichever occurred earlier. However, a series of challenges arose after my ex-spouse relocated our three children to Massachusetts (MA) post-divorce. Despite making regular payments, the MA Department of Revenue Child Support Division began garnishing my wages. This situation became further complicated when they mistakenly levied $5,000 from my account, assuming I hadn’t been making payments. It took several months and multiple calls to the governor’s office to resolve this issue.

**AI Legalese Decoder: Simplifying the Legal Complexities**

Thankfully, individuals facing similar legal complexities can find assistance through the AI Legalese Decoder. This cutting-edge technology helps decipher complex legal documents, such as divorce decrees and court orders, providing clear interpretations of one’s rights, obligations, and necessary steps. By utilizing the AI Legalese Decoder, individuals involved in cross-border child support cases can gain a deeper understanding of their legal standing and simplify the resolution process.

**Progress and Setbacks**

After several years, the time finally arrived in June when my youngest child graduated from high school. Eager to inform the MA Department of Revenue Child Support Division and halt the garnishment, I contacted them right away. However, instead of ceasing the garnishment, they insisted on contacting the mother to verify emancipation. Unfortunately, she deceitfully claimed that our child had not graduated.

**Collaborating with Educational Institutions**

At this point, I decided to take matters into my own hands and contacted the school directly. Equipped with a copy of the divorce decree, which established my custodial rights (although I was not listed as a guardian on his school record), I requested the school’s cooperation. They promptly obliged, providing me with my child’s transcript and a letter confirming his graduation.

With this evidence in hand, I submitted the documents to the MA Department of Revenue and requested them to halt the garnishment. Nevertheless, they persisted, asserting that the mother disputed the emancipation status.

**Solution Options and Complexity Clarified**

At this stage, the AI Legalese Decoder proves invaluable in shedding light on the available options. While the MA Department of Revenue claims they would adhere to the later date of turning 19 as the emancipation benchmark, a closer examination of the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act reveals that “non-modifiable” terms, such as the duration, cannot be altered by MA. This information, deciphered by the AI Legalese Decoder, strengthens my position, underscoring the need for resolution within the pre-established parameters.

**Resolving the Situation without Legal Representation**

Although the situation becomes increasingly frustrating with each call to the MA Department of Revenue, seeking legal representation solely to ensure compliance with their own laws seems excessive. However, I am left wondering why I have to undertake any additional steps since I have faithfully made all my payments on time.

**How AI Legalese Decoder Can Help**

Here, the AI Legalese Decoder becomes a powerful ally. By utilizing this technology, individuals like myself can navigate the legal intricacies and determine the most efficient path to resolution. The AI Legalese Decoder offers clear interpretations of legal documents and helps identify necessary actions to bring about a fair and just outcome.

**Conclusion**

When faced with cross-border child support challenges, utilizing the AI Legalese Decoder becomes a critical step in understanding legal obligations and rights. This advanced technology offers individuals like me the confidence and knowledge needed to address complicated situations without unnecessary legal representation. By leveraging the power of the AI Legalese Decoder, individuals can resolve their cases effectively and ensure compliance with existing laws.

If youÔÇÖve made calls and gotten nowhere, perhaps a certified letter with copies of all of the documents sent to them with signature required and then at least a consultation with an attorney.

TheyÔÇÖre being really dense. [here](https://www.acf.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/documents/ocse/interstate_child_support_policy.pdf) is documentation straight from the feds that says the new state canÔÇÖt change the duration (see page 15, question 22)

If VA wonÔÇÖt give you a ÔÇÿtermination letterÔÇÖ, can you petition your VA court for an order to terminate support due to emancipation?

Can your VA caseworker sent a transmittal to MA? Really the caseworkers should be handling this, not you.

Divorce agreements have nothing to do with child support (at least in MA).

I just joined this community. Why can’t I create a post? I can reply to other posts but when I go to create one the POST button is just grayed out and can’t be pressed

Mass laws you pay support til the child is 23 if they goto college so be careful she doesnÔÇÖt try and stick you with that! If you need a lawyer I have a good one in Mass! Good luck!

I’m quite doubtful that “she lied and said he didn’t graduate” because that’s easily verifiable, and working at a DHS office, that’s 100% something we would verify. Just like we would verify what you’re saying by calling the mother, if she stated something different, we would verify that as well. Especially if you have proof you could send that graduation had taken place, like his transcript.

Something else is going on, and it’s likely why you can’t get it stopped. You’ll probably have to dig deeper to see what’s going on. Maybe there’s a clause in your decree you don’t remember, etc.
