‘Help Entrepreneurs’: The BIG Pitch Returning to Kamloops
Published: 10:05 am Wednesday, February 4, 2026
Overview of The BIG Pitch
The BIG Pitch is making its triumphant return to Kamloops for its second consecutive year, designed specifically to empower entrepreneurs. This dynamic event offers participants the invaluable opportunity to sharpen their pitching skills, forge meaningful connections, and compete for a grand prize of $10,000.
Mark your calendars! The event is set to take place on March 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Kelson Hall Centre for Arts & Education. It is being hosted by the Community Futures Development Corporation of Thompson Country, as announced in a recent news release.
Growth and Support for Entrepreneurs
“Following an incredible inaugural year, The BIG Pitch is back—bigger and built to better support early-stage entrepreneurs at a pivotal moment in their journey,” the announcement states.
Jennifer Brown-Binns, the communications and projects lead, emphasized that this initiative is not merely a competition; rather, it serves as a comprehensive platform. “Our goal is to help entrepreneurs in the early stages of their journey feel supported and seen. Year two builds on what we learned and strengthens the support we’re able to offer local founders,” she mentioned.
Format of the Event
Participants will kick off with a private pitch session, delivering their elevator pitch to a panel composed of seasoned business professionals. Post-pitch, judges will engage with the participants through clarifying questions to gain a deeper understanding of each business concept. Ultimately, five finalists will be chosen to advance to the next round.
The finalists will advance to a live pitch event, presenting their business ideas not only to judges but also to a live audience. This will be followed by another Q&A session. The judges will determine the final winner, while the audience gets the chance to vote for the People’s Choice Award, thus ensuring community involvement in the decision-making process.
Additional Resource Opportunities
Simultaneously, a Business Support Services Tradeshow will take place in an adjacent room. This space is designed to connect entrepreneurs and small business owners to a variety of local and regional business support organizations. Attendees will have access to essential resources, expert guidance, and opportunities to network throughout this enriching event.
“Entrepreneurship doesn’t happen in isolation. The BIG Pitch brings together mentors, partners, and the community to create real momentum for small business owners and entrepreneurs across the Thompson Country Region. That collective support is what makes this initiative so impactful,” Brown-Binns noted.
Enhanced Prizes and Mentorship
In an exciting development for its second year, the grand prize has been elevated to $10,000, generously backed by co-sponsor Venture Kamloops. Additionally, the People’s Choice winner will benefit from dedicated mentorship hours designed to assist them in taking the next steps, sponsored by Avid ActionCOACH.
Furthermore, the event will feature a special area offering free headshots for attending entrepreneurs, courtesy of Tourism Kamloops. Pre-pitch public speaking preparation sessions will be available, thanks to Acacia Pangilinan representing the Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce.
Invitation to the Community
“This free community event is for all ages, and we warmly invite all residents to come and be part of the fun. It’s a unique opportunity for small business owners and entrepreneurs, which will drive economic growth in our region. Plus, a coffee bar will be available to energize everyone throughout the day,” the news release adds.
To qualify for participation in the competition, aspiring entrepreneurs can find the set of eligibility criteria outlined on the Community Futures website.
