Yep it’s disappointing compared to how it used to be. So much promise in the Hatch Facebook page etc and then it seems once it was sold to FNZ all development has stopped

  • initplus

Possibly they are too tied up with work of the being acquired by FNZ to work on expanding the platform. Or possibly FNZ acquired them for the value of the existing customer base & assets and doesn’t see as much potential for growth with the company.

Big international firms like IBKR can offer brokerage services to kiwis, most other investing platforms don’t bother because the legal/admin costs associated outweigh the profit in our very small market.

  • Tane-Tane-mahuta

I still think Sharesies fees are fricken low, even with the increase.

  • delph906

No but I used it for a fairly specific purpose. Buy and hold investing in specific stocks. I purchased those stocks and have held them. On transparent up front fees, so it is perfect for me. It’s also all set up if I want to buy something else from US markets.

Only thing that annoys me is the $50 fee for FIF tax report. Surely it is generated by an algorithm and could be a free service to users. As a result I haven’t even run the numbers on keeping more than $50k with them.

  • Quirky_Chemical_5062

Their advantage is what they don’t have. Perfect for US share investments.

  • Journey1Million

Yup. Moved over to IBKR yrs ago and dividend portfolio start of this year on Sharesies.

  • Horror-Career-335

Yeah I just dont see any benefit doing business with them anymore. I also wonder why is anyone still using Stake given that Sharesies is more lucrative with their offerings? Or am I missing something?

  • Jasoncatt

    Meh….
I have a couple of custodial accounts for the kids, but use IBKR for myself.
I don’t really see Hatch as a serious investment platform.

  • True-Bicycle496

Agree with you. They used to do events to bring like minded people together. They had shirts you could buy where money went to charity. Everting dropped off when they were purchased. I decided to drop off given that as well.

  • nzcrypto

Yeah just like the other places, reel you in then change the agreement in their favour.

  • HaruspexNZ

Found Hatch to be a total rip off. FX charges when putting money in and taking out. They are screwing customers. Rates are crap too. You wait a week for the money converted in some instances. Have now used IBKR and buy the FX and send to them myself. Can also control conversion back of dividends etc.

  • richdrich

I believe they’re a front end on a fractional trading platform that probably doesn’t support ASX/NZX.

  • Icy_Direction7839

Not sure what is happening with Hatch other than FNZ trying to integrate it with their services, but it is sad that they haven’t bothered using any of their products with Hatch yet as far as I can tell. If they even added half of the stuff from Fnz onto Hatch it would be a hell of a lot better than Sharesies
