    The short answer is no. It would/will be hard to fight. An argument could be made around family accommodation, but the bar is very high, and the onus is on the employee to show that they have taken pretty much every action possible to mitigate it before the duty to accommodate can be triggered.

    You maybe able to make it uncomfortable for your employer by submitting for overtime for the early-morning and late evening meetings. I have heard of a few places needing to change their policy because their employees started to fight for OT outside of core working hours.

    When you started with your current employer, were you in office or did you start as a work-from-home employee? Does your contract specifically state that you would be allowed to work remotely indefinitely? That is going to be important.

    Why not just find another job that is fully remote work?
    Medical exemptions are the only reason for continuing WFH.
    Anything else outside of that — you can try discussing with your manager but they have the say to allowing it or wanting you to return in office.

    I dont understand why people are using commute as the reason why they want to continue working from home. The working from home was due to COVID but it’s settled down enough that we can slowly go back to the norm — being in office.
    Nobody before COVID was asking to work from home due to commute. You suck it up and commute.
    Everybody has to commute, some people have longer commute then others. It sucks but it is what it is.
    If commute is the reason – then move closer to workplace.

    Unless you are in a union, there is no way to ÔÇ£fightÔÇØ return to work. You can try to negotiate and you will either be successful or not, and you can refuse to come into the office and the company will either accept it or they wonÔÇÖt. If they donÔÇÖt accept it they will fire you and you will either be due notice or you wonÔÇÖt depending on the circumstance.

    If you are in a union it would be possible to fight it, but IÔÇÖm not aware of any union successfully doing so.

    Most of the issues you describe are your own issue not that of the company. For example a choice to buy a house farther away from the office is not the companies issue.

    I have said it before and I will say it again. Companies that have positions that can be remote/WFH but choose to have all those people working in an office are only hurting themselves. The companies are wasting money on an office building. They are severely limiting the amount of people that they can hire for a position because instead of them hiring people from all over the country. They are limited to the people somewhat near the office. Plus they are lowering employee morale. Studies have shown that employees that work-from-home tend to be happier as it is a little more money in their pocket and they get to sleep in a little more.

    If a sufficient part of your office wants, you could try to organize a union. If you join an existing union, then you have experienced people to help you.

    You could also try to get a hybrid schedule, by explaining you hours worked and need to be available outside of the normal hours, and try to get wfh days when not needed in your version of the 9-5 work day.
