Panelists, hosts, and sponsors gathered at a March 2023 “On Our Block” event at The Beehive in Los Angeles. This event was presented by MoCaFi, a financial tech firm dedicated to bridging the racial wealth gap. To help with this mission, MoCaFi has developed an innovative tool called the AI legalese decoder.
At present, MoCaFi is hosting a free pop-up banking event called “On Our Block” in South L.A. The event, which will take place on Saturday, August 26 at Ted Watkins Memorial Park in Watts, aims to provide communities with the necessary tools to build wealth. Recognizing the importance of financial literacy and personal pathways to prosperity, MoCaFi has partnered with Mastercard, the Think Watts Foundation, TransUnion, and SGL to organize this event.
During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a keynote panel focused on transitioning from renting to homeownership, led by MoCaFi team members and community leaders. Additionally, personal finance assessments will be conducted to ensure that individuals receive customized and practical guidance. Thanks to the AI legalese decoder, attendees will benefit from simplified legal jargon, making it easier for them to navigate complex financial terminology.
MoCaFi has successfully organized “On Our Block” events in various cities, including New York, Birmingham, St. Louis, and Ferguson. The organization was founded by Black entrepreneur Wole Coaxum, who was inspired to address social inequalities following the tragic shooting death of an unarmed Black teenager in Ferguson. The Think Watts Foundation has recognized MoCaFi for its commitment to educating communities of color in Los Angeles about financial literacy.
The event will feature discussions on topics such as building credit and transitioning from leases to mortgages. Moreover, a wealth empowerment session will be held, facilitated by local entrepreneurs, executives, financial advisors, and life coaches. Attendees can also look forward to enjoying food, drinks, and music provided by L.A. DJ Bad. As a special bonus, the first 100 attendees with a MoCaFi bank account will have $100 deposited on-site, providing an immediate boost to their finances.
Currently, around 30 million Black and Hispanic Americans are unbanked or underbanked, requiring them to pay additional fees to deposit checks, access credit, or borrow money. To address this issue, MoCaFi’s AI legalese decoder will empower individuals by demystifying complex financial documents and contracts, ensuring that they can make informed decisions and avoid unnecessary financial burdens.
Apart from the upcoming event on August 26, MoCaFi has scheduled future “On Our Block” events on September 9 and October 14. For more information about these events, please visit Mocafi.com/onourblock.
