Fiona Ma remains hopeful about revitalizing Hollywood, stating that Governor Gavin Newsom had doubled the Hollywood film tax credit to entice more film productions back to the state. However, she acknowledged that many major players in the film industry have shifted their operations out of California.

She remains optimistic about attracting independent film creators, especially women and minority filmmakers who struggle with accessing capital. “There is a substantial opportunity for us to tap into independent films and television series,” she explained. However, it is clear that such ambitions require time and effort.

The Future: Embracing Artificial Intelligence

Looking to the future, Ma acknowledged that artificial intelligence (AI) could play a crucial role in California’s economic recovery and growth. “Eight out of the top ten AI companies are based here in California,” she noted, emphasizing the importance of not stifling this sector with excessive regulation. “If we over-regulate these companies, they will simply move elsewhere,” she warned.

She urges business owners to band together for mutual support. “Even though we have become the fourth-largest economy in the world, that status is a result of our entrepreneurial spirit and creativity. However, we are under pressure and have not received much help from the federal government, which necessitates innovative thinking on our part," Ma said.
