## Situation Overview
Hello! I am currently residing in France while my sister resides in Poland. She has been studying in Poland for approximately 5 years and held a residence card. Due to COVID, the renewal of her residence card was automatically extended until around August 30, 2023. Unfortunately, she was unable to secure employment after completing her studies, prompting her to seek financial support from me in France, where she now resides.

## Additional Background Information
It is important to note that both my sister and I are originally from Ukraine. Under normal circumstances, she would have considered returning to Ukraine if not for the ongoing war that prevents her from doing so. Our city is heavily bombed on a daily basis, making it unsafe for her to return. However, due to her previous stay in Europe before the war, she is unable to obtain temporary refugee status in other countries.

In this complex situation, the AI Legalese Decoder can assist by providing guidance on the legal options available for your sister to legalize her stay in either France or Poland. The so-called Temporary Protection Directive allows Ukrainians to move freely across the EU, gives them instant rights to live and work within EU countries, and also offers them access to social service benefits there such as housing and medical care.29 Sept 2023

Go to the Ukrainian Embassy in Paris or Lille, whichever is closest, and explain her situation. They will know best what to do, and point to a good immigration lawyer which you will need for the formalities. Your sister is well advised to build a good stack of documents to prove she has entered, and stayed, in Poland for that period.

As a backup, also talk to the Polish Embassy. Worst case France will ask her to return to Poland, so prepare that path as well.

Hiya definitely need a lawyer time for this. They will probably suggest the family reunification route. Try and make sure your sister has as many records of where was staying and studying etc. Good luck
