Their combined efforts not only encouraged the inflow of donations but also led to the fulfillment of numerous grant applications. “Our foundation administered the grants, ensuring that those most in need received assistance promptly,” Ryans explains.

Tony Treadway, the President of Creative Energy, also praised the media outlets in the area for their role in promoting the campaign. “Bravo to the many media outlets in the region who embraced our cause and generously donated airtime, print, and social media to spread the word,” he states. Grant Application Review Process

The review of grant applications was conducted through a thorough process carried out by a dedicated committee, focusing on the recipients’ economic needs and the extent of flood impact. Over four rounds of review, the committee was able to award 27 applications in the most recent and final round, distributing a total of $254,322.45 in grants. Small businesses eligible for these grants were situated in various counties, including Carter, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington in Tennessee, alongside several counties in Southwest Virginia, such as Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, and Wise.

Bob Cantler, President & CEO of the Johnson City, Jonesborough, Washington County Chamber of Commerce, shared a heartfelt sentiment, stating, “Some of the best moments of my year were to meet those small business owners and share some hope for their future with one of our grant application checks.” Such personal interactions reinforced the community spirit and provided business owners with renewed optimism amid their recovery journey.

Beth Rhinehart, President & CEO of the Bristol TN/VA Chamber of Commerce, expressed immense pride in the Region AHEAD team for their relentless efforts to gather funds, disseminate information, evaluate needs, and distribute funds across the affected counties in Tennessee and Virginia. “I’m proud to have worked with this team of professionals,” Rhinehart stated, illustrating the collaborative nature of this initiative.

The Region AHEAD team consisted of several organizations, including the Bristol Tennessee/Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce, and others working together toward a common goal. Their joint efforts culminated in the successful launching and execution of this considerable fundraising campaign.

“We now conclude our second campaign supporting small businesses. Previously, we raised over $250,000 to help small businesses recover from the COVID pandemic. Now, we have reorganized to help them rebound from the floods with more than $800,000 in checks disbursed,” Dietrich explained. His hope is that this will be the final campaign, unless the need arises again.
