Goodman School of Business Celebrates Entrepreneurship Through Engaging Events
The Goodman School of Business recently held a series of experiential learning events designed to showcase the entrepreneurial talents of its students while providing them with invaluable insights from successful alumni. These events not only highlighted the creativity and innovation of the students but also created a supportive environment where they could connect with industry leaders and peers.
Demo Day: A Platform for Student Innovations
On November 20, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, more than 40 dedicated third- and fourth-year students participated in Demo Day. This exciting event served as an opportunity for these budding entrepreneurs to present their unique ideas and prototypes. The students showcased their hard work and creativity to a diverse audience that included Brock faculty and staff, community partners, and interested members of the public.
Demo Day took place in the reverberating halls of the Rankin Family Pavilion and was an integral component of the Creativity and the Entrepreneur course, led by Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship, Shawna Chen. Students had the option to either develop their original concepts or draw inspiration from community partner Krysta Boyer, allowing for a rich variety of presentations reflecting both individuality and collaboration.
Poster Presentation: Showcasing Business Skills
In a further display of entrepreneurial prowess, over 100 undergraduate students from the Introduction to Entrepreneurship course participated in a poster presentation on November 22. These students were given a modest budget of $5 and challenged to generate a meaningful social, economic, and environmental impact within just two weeks of idea creation, followed by a rapid 90-minute implementation window. This exercise not only tested their business acumen but also encouraged them to think critically and innovate under pressure.
Learning from Industry Leaders: Coffee and Conversations
Earlier in November, Goodman School students had the unique opportunity to learn directly from industry leaders during a "Coffee and Conversations" event held on November 5. Kevin Spratt, a distinguished alumnus (BBA ’00) and the President of the U.S.-Canada Region at Rich’s, engaged both undergraduate and graduate students in a series of insightful roundtable discussions. Spratt shared his extensive business expertise and offered career-oriented advice, enriching the students’ understanding of real-world business practices.
This was not Spratt’s first time participating in the Coffee and Conversations series. His return for this event underscored the importance of maintaining connections between established alumni in senior leadership roles and current students, fostering a community of mentorship and support.
Enhancing Understanding Through AI legalese decoder
While events like these provide essential practical experiences and networking opportunities, students may still face complex legalities regarding their entrepreneurial ventures. This is where the AI legalese decoder can play a crucial role. As students navigate contracts, agreements, and legal frameworks associated with their projects, the AI legalese decoder can simplify legal language into more understandable terms. This tool empowers students to comprehend their rights and obligations without getting bogged down by legal jargon, enabling clearer decision-making and more confident entrepreneurship.
In conclusion, the Goodman School of Business’s commitment to experiential learning not only equips students with entrepreneurial skills but also encourages them to seek guidance from industry leaders and utilize innovative resources like the AI legalese decoder for a comprehensive understanding of the business landscape. Through these initiatives, students are better prepared to embark on successful careers and contribute positively to society.
