    I would be highly skeptical of random phone calls from unknown people demanding sensitive information to be handed over, especially info that is potentially worth $$$. This could easily be a scam/phishing attempt. I would think any legitimate legal proceeding is going to be handled by an actual law firm with a paper trail. I would refuse any and all information over the phone and if someone even starts to bring this up end the call and block them.

    If there is an actual legal proceeding you will eventually get contacted through mail or service.

If the government actually tries to question you, say nothing and contact a lawyer. You already messed up a little by telling them anything besides that you don’t work for the company.     You will probably be subpoenaed. DonÔÇÖt say anything else to anyone without a court order. You probably didnÔÇÖt do anything illegal, but I might consider a consultation with a lawyer when you do get called as a witness. The CTO might have bigger trouble.

Also like have said it sounds like they are fishing for info so they can either do something nefarious or they are legit creditors trying to fish for evidence to go after whatever is left of the company.     IANAL but I doubt you have any legal responsibility absent some sort of court order, and even in that case you probably would be due payment for time spent unless you were yourself somehow at fault for something (which seems unlikely from your description).

    There are some special areas but your work probably didnÔÇÖt fall within them. For example, in the US, director level employees in engineering and above are subject to specific special treatment mostly with regards to department of energy restricted technology, but the federal government created that special case specifically for the nuclear and space programs.
