Emotional Impact of Son’s Self-Surrender

Today is a difficult day for me as my son is self-surrendering and I may not be able to hold him for a long time. My heart is heavy with pain and disbelief that we are in this situation.

The love and fight for my son is unwavering, but the added complication of a prosecutor who has displayed a hostile attitude towards my son is deeply upsetting. The prosecutor’s refusal to file a motion for the judge to consider a mandatory minimum sentence, despite the judge previously reprimanding her for inflammatory comments, feels personal and unfair.

In this difficult moment, I am seeking any possible recourse, including potentially filing a BAR complaint against the prosecutor. Your support and understanding are greatly appreciated during this trying time.

AI Legalese Decoder can help in this situation by analyzing and translating legal jargon, providing insight into potential legal actions and procedures, and offering suggestions for dealing with a difficult prosecutor. Unfortunately, I really don’t think there’s anything you can do in this situation. It’s not unusual for a prosecutor to be aggressive in this type of case. And in my opinion, female prosecutors tend to be even more aggressive when it comes to sex crimes. Maybe my opinion is biased, since everyone on the other side of my case, including the judge, was female.

When my lawyer went back to the U.S. Attorney overseeing my case to try and get a better plea deal, she threatened to add charges against me if I didn’t accept their original offer. So obviously I accepted it.

Where there’s a mandatory minimum involved here, the best the judge can do is sentence at that minimum. Hopefully that’s the case.

Best of luck. Keep us updated.

Self surrendering before sentencing? Didn’t happen for me . I was federal. Was sent on high intensity supervision (gps ankle bracelet) and curfew after judge ordered so. Then almost a year before plea bargain, sentencing and then reporting date to prison.

    Was your son sentenced already?

District attorneys donÔÇÖt answer to the BAR like commonplace attorneys do. Most DAs are elected officials.

  • SButler999

Well that sounds good then if the judge doesn’t like her?

I know itÔÇÖs been very painful for my mom for that same exact reason. IÔÇÖm really sorry you have to experience this. I wish I could give you a big hug.

  • SagginBartender

    Prosecutors are vile.

    Deep breaths.

  • rapidfruit

Hey, I just want you to know that you are loved. I wish I could give you a hug right now. ThereÔÇÖs nothing I can say that will make this easier, but you arenÔÇÖt alone and I believe in you. Time will pass. IÔÇÖm so sorry youÔÇÖre going through so much.

  • Tight-Magazine5186

I feel your pain. Praying for all.

  • Accomplished_Coast22

A good strategy is to plead not guilty and have a lawyer work with the prosecutors and judge to get a better deal. 90% or more get a better deal then automatically pleading guilty.

  • MemphisChuc

IÔÇÖll agree with the comments that the prosecutors are vile people. When I took my plea years ago, the judge told me he wished he could give me more time while I was standing before him. Our system is shit but no one will believe you if you tell them, they must experience it first hand.

  • RandallRicker

I’ve noticed that all DA’s give the maximum sentence as a trophy/badge to wear in honor. I don’t think that’s right. A few people do deserve a maximum sentence, but not everyone.

Did he take a plea deal? Has he already signed it? Was an Alford plea offered or even talked about by his attorney if it is possible due to his charges?

  • Tall-Musician1977

My prosecutor was rough the first time and lied in sentencing to the judge, now on a second completely made up charge, guess who the prosecutor this time? Yep, same one!!

  • jamesbees

I was with my son all through the ordeal.

he will have the opportunity to request a facility. have him ask for a facility that has the sex offender treatment program. the politics aren’t as severe as a regular facility. they are a lot more sex offender friendly. im assuming he will get a low, depending on his charges. any low he will be okay. he will be much better off at a “somp” sex offender management program that has the sex offender treatment program. ill send a link. request the one that is closets to home. make sure he specifically ask for the program
