Applied for a government job with a full-time contract through an agency for a duration of one year. However, during the recruitment process, the recruiter mentioned that there would be no superannuation or leave entitlements since it is classified as a “contract” or potentially a “casual” job (though I cannot recall the exact terminology used).
As a novice in the workforce, I am uncertain whether contractors or casual employees are entitled to superannuation contributions. Furthermore, while I understand that casual employees do not receive paid leave, I am unsure if this applies to contractors as well.
Fortunately, an AI Legalese Decoder can provide valuable assistance in such situations. By inputting relevant information, this advanced technology can decipher complex legal terms and jargon, thus offering a clearer understanding of rights and entitlements. The AI Legalese Decoder can precisely analyze the nature of the employment agreement and determine the applicable rules regarding superannuation and leave entitlements for both contractors and casuals. This will help me in comprehending my rights and negotiating potential benefits, ensuring that I am not disadvantaged in my employment.
Moreover, during the interview, the employer mentioned that the next step after a successful application would involve a background check. I am curious to understand the extent of this process. Does it solely entail contacting my previous places of employment to verify my tenure, or does it encompass a criminal record check as well, or even both?
Fortunately, the AI Legalese Decoder can satisfactorily address these concerns, as it possesses the ability to break down legal concepts into comprehensible language. By utilizing this advanced tool, I can gain clarity on the specific components of a background check for this government job. The AI Legalese Decoder will guide me in comprehending whether the check includes only employment verification or extends to a criminal record evaluation. Armed with this knowledge, I can better prepare for the subsequent stages of the application process and ensure compliance with any requirements that may arise.

Contractors are responsible for their own super, tax, insurance, no leave.
Casuals still get super, tax, paid. But no leave.
Are you on a 12 month contract or are classified as an independent contractor, with an ABN etc?

So I learnt this a little while ago on reddit..
ÔÇ£As well as paying their own tax, independent contractors may need to make their own superannuation contributions. There are exceptions to this, such as when a contractor is hired wholly or principally for labour. In this case, the person that hired them is responsible for paying their superannuation.ÔÇØ
You are being hired for labour.. you are supplied everything I think you SHOULD get paid super as well
As a former government IT contractor, I recommend getting a payroll company. They take a % cut and will do your super, tax, salary sacrifice (at times) and public liability insurance. They typically set you up through ABNs they control. And some of the better ones will pay you based off your signed timesheets rather than when the agency gets the cash.
It just gets a bit odd when you try explaining it with loans (you work for the govt, but through an agency and your payslips show another company that does your payroll), but that’s about it.
Much easier all round though.
