In the past two years, I have been assigned to a non-operational command on shore duty, causing me to lose touch with the latest updates regarding the Government Travel Charge Card (GTCC) procedures. I am an O-4 and just did a PCS. I didn’t use my GTCC once. That rule is stupid and unenforceable. Unless you have a TDY en route that you need lodging or a rental car for, it will make no difference in the end. All of your entitlements like per diem and mileage are flat rates that are determined by the distance you are traveling and how many dependents/vehicles you have. The only reason someone should even consider the GTCC is if they can’t front the cost of a PCS themselves and want that debt to be on the government’s tab while they wait for their travel claim to be processed, which is a totally valid (and I think the intended) use. Personally, I prefer to rack up Amex points on gas, lodging, food, etc.

RA here… So, you DON’T have to you use your GTC for shit. You will still get reimbursed, but……. You MIGHT be subject to disciplinary action (GTC Regs 040502). Same as us credit card point collectors, the AF gets points/rebates by us using the GTC, so of course they want to shove the GTCs down our throat. Some rebates or rebates in a quarter that’s Iv’e seen is along the 300k range.
