Goodwill and Assurance Wireless to host Affordable Connectivity Program event Aug. 8

Goodwill and Assurance Wireless will be hosting an event on August 8th to determine who may qualify for the Affordable Connectivity Program. The event will take place at the Thomas Crossroads Center in Newnan from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Individuals receiving SNAP, Medicaid, Federal Public Housing, WIC, SSI, or Lifeline may be eligible for the program. Qualified candidates may receive a 5G Android tablet or cellphone that includes free unlimited internet access. Please note that a small one-time purchase fee is required for the tablet. Goodwill, Construction Ready partnering to host training program next month

Goodwill is currently accepting applications for its Construction Ready training program. The program is scheduled to be held from August 28th to September 22nd. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must pass a drug screen before and during the class. Orientation for the program will take place on August 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Goodwill Career Center in Newnan. Nominations open for new statewide youth leadership program

Nominations are currently open for a new youth leadership program offered by the University of Georgia (UGA). The program, known as Youth LEAD Georgia, is open to rising 10th and 11th grade students. Supported by a $1.5 million pledge from Chick-fil-A Inc., the program will run from January to November next year. To participate, students must be nominated by an adult. Nominations will remain open until September 1st, and nominated youth will have until September 30th to complete their application. There is no cost associated with participation in the program. Delta Community accepting applications for its 11th Annual Philanthropic Fund Program

Delta Community Credit Union is currently accepting applications for its 2024 Philanthropic Fund grant program. Over the course of 2024, this program plans to distribute $150,000 to 20 nonprofit organizations committed to the health and well-being of young people, as well as financial literacy and education programs that focus on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) instruction. The application period closes on August 31st at 5 p.m. All applications must be submitted online via the portal at www.DeltaCommunityCU.com/PhilanthropicFund. Since its launch in 2013, the Philanthropic Fund has invested more than $1 million in 208 organizations, providing educational opportunities, job and career training, and medical and human services support to those in need. Delta Community also contributes to local communities by partnering with schools, awarding scholarships, and supporting chambers of commerce, industry partners, and civic organizations.

The majority of Georgia’s Regional Commissions see slight rise in unemployment, according to DOL

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson recently announced that most of Georgia’s Regional Commissions reported a rise in unemployment rates in June, except for the Atlanta and Southwest Georgia Regional Commissions which reported unchanged rates. The labor force increased in the Atlanta, Central Savannah, Georgia Mountains, Middle Georgia, Northeast Georgia, Northwest Georgia, and Three Rivers Regional Commissions, which includes Coweta County. Similarly, employment saw an increase in the same commissions. On the other hand, claims decreased in Coastal Georgia, Heart of Georgia, Middle Georgia, Northwest Georgia, River Valley, Southern Georgia, and Southwest Georgia Regional Commissions.
