MSMEs in Uttar Pradesh: Success at Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2023
The inaugural Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2023 was a resounding success, with exhibitors securing over 75,000 business-to-business (B2B) orders during the five-day event held from September 21-25 at the India Expo Center and Mart in Greater Noida. The event attracted more than 3 lakh visitors, showcasing the tremendous potential of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Uttar Pradesh.
The participation of women entrepreneurs was a notable highlight, with more than 200 stalls representing over 300 women entrepreneurs from the state. The trade show also provided a platform for female entrepreneurs who established their ventures under the Uttar Pradesh Livelihood Mission to showcase their products, contributing to the empowerment of women in business.
Promoting Economic Growth in Uttar Pradesh
The event witnessed the presence of MSME Minister Narayan Rane, who emphasized the ongoing development in various sectors within the state. Rane highlighted that India is expected to become the third largest economy by 2030, and Uttar Pradesh will play a pivotal role in this growth. To tackle migration and improve the living standards of citizens, Rane stressed the need for economic growth and the enhancement of per capita income, drawing a comparison between the per capita income of the US and India.
In her inaugural address, President Droupadi Murmu acknowledged Uttar Pradesh’s leading position in the country with over 96 lakh MSMEs. She also highlighted the participation of more than 200 manufacturers and over 400 buyers from 66 countries, underscoring the trade show’s significance in supporting local manufacturers and small businesses while providing exposure to national and international markets.
Diverse Exhibitors and Geographical Indicator Tags
The trade show featured exhibitors from various sectors, including agriculture and horticulture, defence corridor, e-commerce, banking and financial services, education, infrastructure, and engineering and manufacturing. It served as a platform for these sectors to showcase their innovative products and services.
Uttar Pradesh is home to 18.25 lakh Udyam-registered MSMEs, according to the Udyam platform. Additionally, the state boasts 53 Geographical Indicator Tags (GI), with 40 of them dedicated to crafts, as reported by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks.
Investment Opportunities and Prospects
During the UP Global Investors Summit held earlier this year, roadshows were conducted in 17 countries, resulting in investment proposals worth a staggering Rs 36 lakh crore. This indicates the immense potential and attractiveness of Uttar Pradesh as an investment destination, presenting abundant opportunities for growth and development in the MSME sector.
