Kathleen Stout, who owned The Jewelry Stand Maui for nearly three decades, shares the heartache of losing everything in the fires. Stout laments, “It’s heart-wrenching to see my beloved business, which I nurtured with passion and hard work for 26 years, reduced to ashes. I may still create jewelry, but the future of my established business seems uncertain.”
In an effort to rebuild, Stout has opened an online shop, yet the road to recovery remains arduous. “I’m disheartened by the lack of progress and support,” she states. “I’ve exhausted all options available to seek help, but so far, I’ve come up empty-handed.”

As authorities grapple with funding dispersal, the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism has allocated $12.5 million to Maui County a month after the fires. However, no one has received the funds yet, as it awaits approval from the county council.
