Hello Everyone,
I am reaching out in the hopes that someone can offer guidance on the situation I find myself in. Approximately ten days ago, I engaged in a car for a truck trade with another individual. Both vehicles had a few issues, and I made sure to disclose all of them to the other party. In addition, I provided replacement parts for some of these issues. I have written documentation confirming that I informed the other party of the problems.
A few days after the trade, I decided to have the truck checked for a lien and discovered that it is, in fact, encumbered by a lien. I messaged the other party, and he acknowledged that he did not disclose the lien before the trade. He assured me in writing that he was going to pay off the lien. However, he later claimed that the truck broke down without providing me with any receipts or proof of the breakdown. Now he is demanding $1000 from me or he will not pay off the lien.
I am uncertain about my options in this situation. I made the other party aware of all the issues to my knowledge, so I am unsure as to whether he has any leverage against me.
