Small Business Owners Gather at Town Hall Broadmeadows to Learn and Network

Small business owners from across Hume came together at the Town Hall Broadmeadows on Wednesday, September 6, for a networking event aimed at helping them navigate the challenges of owning a business.

The event saw an impressive turnout, with approximately 250 individuals in attendance. This diverse group included people from micro-enterprises, home-based businesses, start-ups, as well as aspiring entrepreneurs looking to establish their own small businesses.

Hume Mayor Joseph Haweil emphasized the vital role that small businesses play in the local economy, stating, “Our Small Business Festival event provided an invaluable platform for new business ideas to be heard and for aspiring entrepreneurs to seek guidance, share knowledge, and make their mark.”

Mr. Haweil further highlighted the significance of small businesses in driving job creation within the community, remarking, “Small businesses also contribute to the creation of numerous job opportunities that cater to our diverse population.”

One of the key highlights of the event was a series of informative sessions covering various important aspects of running a business. These sessions delved into topics such as council services and permits, tax obligations, digital marketing and social media strategies, legal contracts and obligations, accounting and bookkeeping, as well as insights on starting a business and scaling up a microenterprise.

The event was organized by Hume council and was made possible through a collaboration with Holmesglen. Holmesglen is responsible for running the Self Employment Assistance Program, which offers support and guidance to budding entrepreneurs aiming to establish their own businesses.
