    I was rated 100% P&T today. I donÔÇÖt post much on here but i follow this thread a lot. Thank you for everyone who answered my questions.

    Advice to folks- i was denied 3 times over, finally i got it today, March 7th 2024. DonÔÇÖt ever give up.

  • Alterationss

    IÔÇÖve done it.

    Hey guys, short story is I got 100% P&T on my first claim after 7 years of service. IÔÇÖm 27 and my wife is still active duty.

    Currently using the GI bill my psychology degree so IÔÇÖm making moves there.

    Since IÔÇÖm 100% P&T (notified today)

    Is there any benefits that are kinda hidden away or any tips you can give me?

    Also, some advice for the guys looking to start, I got ÔÇ£luckyÔÇØ and submitted my claim with nearly zero supporting documentation, basically I didnÔÇÖt go to medical for maybe 2/32 claims I submitted due to fear of repercussions in my past career field.

    I also started my claim while on terminal so sooner the better. Basically went into the VA hospital and laid everything out on the table during my initial consultation. Basically what hurt, what got hurt, howÔÇÖs my mental state and what has flared up during my service.

    Next I did all the VES consultations and was 100% honest regardless how bad it looks for me. Never got any official test done other than the first checkups to see whatÔÇÖs wrong.

    I will be getting therapy help since I want to get better and I was not expecting this at all.

    If anybody has any questions or tips to offer, IÔÇÖd be happy to answer and greatly would appreciate everything.

    Thanks guys!

    * Type of claim: New/Initial
    * Submitted/received date: 2 June 2023
    * Initial review date: 10 June 2023
    * Evidence gathering/review date: June 23 -Feb 24
    * in-person C&P December, Medical Record Review and Opinion done mid-Feb.
    * PFD date: 28 Feb 2024
    * PDA date: 1 March 2024
    * PFN date: 5 March 2024- 3 am wasn’t there, checked 6:30 am and PNF**still not seeing a rating, but my husband went from being under the dependent status of “dependents not on your VA benefits” to “dependents on your VA benefits”. When I saw my status change to PDA I put in a dependent claim for our kids…they are under there now too. They combined my dependent claims with the Parkinson’s claim. I am hopeful but will prepare for the worst.
    * Temp Jurisdiction: Roanoke
    * Misc details: I have waited a very long time to be able to start a claim. Unbeknownst to movement issues written off as stress by doctors at 21 was actually Parkinson’s disease. It took 17 years of continued issues to finally get a movement specialist to diagnose.
    * I filed a fully developed claim under the Chronic Illnesses within a year of discharge for “Paralysis Agitans” presumptive service connection – my symptoms started within 6 months of leaving the service. VA calls Parkinson’s in this rule “Paralysis Agitans”

    With Parkinson’s Claim, you do not need a diagnosis to claim it you just need to have symptoms on the DBQ– I wish I knew this years ago; if you have movement issues: suddenly can’t walk or talk, muscle twitching in the face, unilateral weakness or movement issues only happening on one side, anxiety, depression, shuffling gait, resting tremor, and pill roll tremor with your pointer & thumb finger – these are symptoms of Parkinson’s.

    C&P Examiner on VA put presumption in my favor on DBQ for the date the symptoms started. Unsure of the other medical opinion.

    – VSO was trying to make a claim ONLY under the PACT Act with time frames or places I didn’t fall into. If you don’t fall under the PACT Act check the Chronic Illness symptoms within a year rule; even if you didn’t have a diagnosis then you can show symptom connection to a later diagnosed illness with chronicity, try to claim it.

    Really, this is just an overwhelming feeling, and IÔÇÖm coming here first to share as I couldnÔÇÖt have done it without those of you active on this forum. ItÔÇÖs not only about the knowledge, but the support to keep going and getting over the guilt that many of us suffer as not deserving.

    I received notice just now on the app that a MH Supplemental was approved at 70% bring me to 90%, but IÔÇÖm not done.

    HereÔÇÖs an overview of my history:

    ÔÇó Medically Separated in 2001 due to peripheral nerve damage resulting from either compartment syndrome or the fasciotomy. I was discharged at Tinnitus 10% and Peripheral Nerve Damage 10%, and Bilateral Hearing Loss ÔÇô 0%.

    ÔÇó I never went back to the VA or knew really anything about the possibility until a friend encouraged me in 2022. In May 2022, I filed for an increase for the peripheral nerve damage, and new claims for: Sleep Apnea, Migraines, Rhinitis, Sinusitis, Mental Health, Thyroid Condition (HashimotoÔÇÖs Disease).

    ÔÇó Timeline:

    o June 2022 – Hearing and Leg (Nerve Damage) C&Ps

    o November 2022 ÔÇô Rhinitis C&P

    o May 2023 – Migraines, Mental Health and Sleep Apnea C&Ps

    o May 2023 ÔÇô Rhinitis 10%, Peripheral Nerve Damage increase 20%

    o September 2023 ÔÇô Mental Health Denied ÔÇô Examiner opined that there is ÔÇ£no connectionÔÇØ between hearing loss, tinnitus and Anxiety/Depression

    o October 2023 ÔÇô Migraines 30%

    o November 2023 ÔÇô MH Supplemental with Nexus/DBQ from Brightview

    o November 2023 ÔÇô Sinusitis and Thyroid C&P

    o December 2023 ÔÇô Sinusitis 0% (although I had records of 3 instances with antibiotic between August 2023 ÔÇô December 2023) ÔÇô examiner put ÔÇ£less than likelyÔÇØ and 1 episode yearly ÔÇô awarded 0% Pact Act; Thyroid denied

    o February 2024 ÔÇô Supplemental for Migraines Increase (2-3/monthly); Sinusitis Increase (infections approx. every 5 weeks with antibiotic needed about every 2 months) Pending

    o March 2024 ÔÇô Mental Health 70% (by the way, I had a VERA call yesterday)

    o March 2024 ÔÇô Total 90 (87 is the actual I believe)

    ÔÇó Next Plan:

    o Supplemental for OSA connected to SC Rhinitis, Sinusitis and Mental Health. I have a CPAP from the VA.

    o Ignored my health for years, and try to take care of myself ÔÇô retired Federal LEO as of last year also. Saw a spine doctor today and they told me I have ÔÇ£military neckÔÇØ Cervical Kyphosis of my C5-C6 today, and IÔÇÖm scheduled for an MRI next week. IÔÇÖm at 63% measured kyphosis. I guess thatÔÇÖs the reason for the tingling in my limbs, and neck and back pain over the years.

    o Breath with a burden lifted off my back and acknowledgement of the visible and invisible pain experienced for years.

    Thank you to everyone here ÔÇô ItÔÇÖs never too late to get the care you deserve.

    From the war room…

    Second claim, initial rating in 2016 and this claim filed last summer.

    Hypertension, radiculopathy, ED service connected.

    OSA: denied, supplemental filed.

    Dizziness: denied, supplemental filed.

    CFS: denied.

    Right knee pain: denied, HLR.

    Supplemental for hypertension higher rating submitted.

    HLR for radiculopathy higher rating submitted.

    Sitting at 82% rounded down to 80, previously 75 rounded up.

    Enough “on the board” to get to 100, need some favorable bounces though.

  • Binge_Biscuits

    First claim ever. I separated in 1996 but was doing ok until a few years ago. I sent my claims paperwork by mail and it was received by the VA on 2/10/23. I just had my first and only C&P exam on my lower back on 2/20/24. They requested x-rays and that has not been scheduled yet. They said there will be no C&P for PTSD-,MST, tinnitus , OSA or hypertension so I am thinking I will be denied on all of those even though I had some rock solid paperwork. I can’t check the status of my claim online. It says I have no claim submitted and therefore the VA claims tracker doesn’t work either. So I am waiting. And waiting some more. And I’m still waiting. Oh yeah, and I’m waiting.

    Hi everyone!

    Is this timeline applicable to the IDES program? I completed the IDES process, and my final day was on February 27th, with retirement effective on the February 28th. I checked VA.gov for my decision letter status, and it currently shows ‘Evidence gathering, review, and decision.’ Does anyone know how long it typically takes before my decision letter is uploaded?

    Do claims typically speed up once the VA has all your DBQs from every exam? Or total crapshoot? I have one increase (for L5-S1 Lumbar disc herniation with DDD and arthritis) and 5 secondaries for the back problem. (4 of which are mental health, other is right knee).

    My deferred tbi has been back and forth from evidence gathering to PFD with multiple exam rework and clarification requests since Feb 6. On March 6th I was sent to Evidence gathering with a new exam request and back in the NWQ. Currently waiting for a call to schedule a new mental health exam or see if its going to be ACE. (As per the 1800 phone call today).

    Based on my decision letter from last month, I was granted secondary conditions to my “service connected tbi”. So although I am still waiting on a rating it appears I did receive service connection.

    * Evidence gathering/review date: 3/1/24, CP exams scheduled for 3/5 (physical) and 3/6 (psych telehealth)

    Served in the USAR from 92-98. MST-PTSD never reported because I was afraid to lose my clearance. On SSDI for MH since 2007, but never thought I qualified for VA comp. Other MST survivors urged me to file, but I never looked into it. Intent to file in Jan 2023. Took me until December 2023 to finally file my first claim. MST at 17. I am 49. Praying the examiners and rater do right by me. This process has been really hard on my MH, so hoping for a resolution soon.
