## Question About VWCE ETF Price Movement

This may be a silly question, I apologise in advance.

The VWCE ETF contains a lot of US equities. As the US stock market opens in the afternoon in the EU, how does the price move? If the European stock exchange opens at 9:00 and the US opens at 15:30, and let’s say NVIDIA stock rises 10%, will the VWCE within the EU also rise at 15:30?

## Expanding on the Price Movement Concerns

When it comes to ETFs with exposure to US equities like VWCE, understanding how price movements in the US stock market can affect the ETF’s price in the EU is crucial. Given the time difference between the European and US stock exchanges, there can be discrepancies in price movements that investors need to consider.

It should, but not necessarily. An ETF trades as normal stock, so there can be discrepancies between its intrinsic value (called NAV or net asset value) and its traded value (in such case, it is said that an ETF trades at premium or discount). Usually this discrepancies are not too big (if that was the case, you could do arbitrage), but they exist and you can see them in many financial websites.

When the US market is not open, then the ETF prices for US stocks will be based on futures and expectations related to those stocks.
