Dude I have been 60% since september or 2023 and have been to the doctors a bazillion gajillion billion times already. Free of charge. Got diagnosed for sleep apnea and got the expensive ass machine sitting right next to me right now, got my first ever eye exam and pair of glasses, been to the er 3 times in total (va facilities), and was seeing a chiropractor every week for about 4 months. Everything was completely free. Even now i can go to any hospital emergency room and give them my id card and get seen. Just got to make sure to notify the va very soon but still it’s all free as hell. It’s awesome and i can’t imagine how much better it gets at 100% with dental and (if i had dependents) free medical care for my family. Go use those benefits and also make sure to get your picture taken so they can give send you a id if you haven’t already done so

I’ve had great care at every place i’ve been to. I’m sure there are some bad apples out there though

You have 100% health coverage through the VA, including prescriptions. AND…the VA will bill your employer plan for all visits to the VA. But you won’t have any out of pocket for those visits. This will apply to your HSA deductible, potentially helping meet it. VA is slow to bill but it may work to your advantage if your family is also on the employer plan.
My husband maintained his employer plan so he had a backup for urgent care and other services. He was told VA doesn’t do vasectomies or authorize them through Community Care so that’s one thing his employer plan covered.
Utilizing VA/VA Community Care is a smart move financially and for having all of your medical details at VA for potential future claims. Although Community Care provider records don’t automatically upload to VA, the fact that VA authorized it and purpose is documented.
This past year, all of my husband’s leukemia treatments including stem cell transplant was paid for by VA through Community Care and ongoing treatment as well. Believe it or not, we haven’t had much trouble getting treatments authorized. His private insurance denied his hospital admission and various things despite his diagnosis. I’m thankful we didn’t have to jump through all of the insurance hoops. We just had to do some extra VA visits for the stem cell transplant referral and general checkups.

Just a friendly reminder that is VA healthcare not insurance.  Your family will not be covered unless you get 100% Pt. Also, your employer will not allow you to decline coverage for yourself and only cover your family. Having said that,  you can ease some of the financial burden by only going to the VA for your medical needs and keeping your family in your employer plan.  Call the VA and get more info

Even though my family is covered under VA, we both still have Medicare and PlanG , getting meds in a hurry we use our regular insurance and some private docs don’t like VA.

    I applied before receiving a rating 🤷🏻‍♀️
I just had to pay a copay for meds but it was less than ten bucks

Like others have said, you’re priority group 1, so the only thing they wouldn’t perform for you for free is dental. Nevertheless, I’m rated P&T and after using the VA exclusively for four years I can say that the quality of the care they provide is so good that I accepted an $8/hr pay cut to get health insurance, and I haven’t looked back. Back in January I had surgery and while I was convalescing I got bored and sent a letter to the VHA declining further care and canceling my enrollment in their health system.

For me at least, I switched from VA healthcare to my wife’s state plan about a year ago and am glad I did.

Even though it costs money, the VA in my area is so disorganized and flippant that the time I spent trying to make arrangements for care cost more than it would take to actually just spend the money for private care.

If I didn’t work and had a much more open schedule for appointments, I’d do the VA. I just couldn’t justify the timesink.

I am covered for all my medical needs at a VA clinic or facility Im Rated at 60%

    I mean…..the VA is only a phone call away….website is just a click away….🤷🏻
