Cat Tax for those in need https://i.redd.it/25dcpopgyzec1.jpeg
Where are Americans storing their emergency funds? Since there are no HYSAs in Japan I’ve considered moving my emergency savings to a U.S. HYSA or money market but I’m concerned that 1. the transfer fees would eat away any gains through interest and 2. it wouldn’t be easily accessible in Japan, which is supposed to be the point of an emergency fund.
Are people just keeping their emergency savings here?
Just a heads-up: Stumbled across [this financial times piece](https://www.ft.com/content/6fb1602d-a08b-4a8c-bac0-047b7d64aba5) in my morning reading, and couldn’t put it down. On a mac you can get the whole thing via Reader (shift+command+R).
For those left japan after 6-9 years and get a nenkin lump sum refund, what happens to the 1-4 years that you don’t get a refund on? Does it remain counted as nenkin eligibility if you do return?
My GoRemit account will be closed this month due to two years of inactivity.
I won’t miss it. Same as my Gaica card, which never worked.
I wonder whether SBI will fix Shinsei or just eventually kill it…
Recommendation for car insurance? Just bought my first car 😀 of course the vendor proposed their own insurance, but seems expensive.
I’ve been steadily transferring savings from my country to Japan and since the yen is weak right now it’s a good chance. But my currency is also weak right now but has some spikes here and there.
Finding the exchange course is of course very easy and most pages have historical graphs.
But what I would like to know is why a change happened?
Like, my currency is SEK, right now that’s 1 sek = 14,17 jpy
If it changes to 1 sek = 14,05 jpy, did that happen because SEK got weaker or the yen got stronger? Or maybe both got stronger but the yen was strengthened more?
Should I simply always double check against the USD/EUR or is there a site that will tell me the exchange course and trend of both currencies against a third currency like the dollar?
Hello, some banking related questions.
I’m currently only using Yuucho and was thinking about looking into another bank. Japanese itself is not an issue but I’d like to find a bank that
– handle middle names (I have 3 of them)
– has a great online banking platform
I’ve read a lot of post on Sony bank but I’m not sure I would be able to use the club s as they seem to require non JPY deposit.
Any resources I could check?
Also since it’s not a thing in my country, what’s the point of a credit card (vs debit card).
🙏
