## Situation Update: Completed Court Case in December
In December, I finally reached a conclusion in the courts regarding my case. It involved sexual contact with a minor. Thankfully, I am not required to register as a sex offender because the girl misrepresented her age to me. However, I did plead down to a lesser charge, which unfortunately still stands as a felony. As a result, I am now on probation for a period of 2 years.
### Challenges Ahead: Strict Probation Conditions and Counseling Sessions
The psychologist who evaluated me has imposed very strict parameters that I must adhere to during the probation period. These include restrictions on social media use, internet monitoring, and a ban on viewing pornography. Such invasive measures seem excessive, especially considering my non-offender status. Additionally, I have started attending weekly sex offender group counseling sessions as mandated by the evaluator. These sessions last for an hour and a half each time, and will continue for the entire 2-year probation period. The financial burden of these sessions, coupled with the weekly homework assignments and potential polygraph tests, feels overwhelming.

Your restrictions and treatment program sound typical for a SO. I take it you were only sentenced to probation.
Based on the statutory offense, and your plea deal, I would say that you have been somewhat fortunate.
Under those same circumstances, here in GA, you would most likely be serving some prison time – and then have the parole/probation requirements and restrictions that you mention.
> I’m not an offender at this point.
You are, you just don’t have to register. And you’re extremely fortunate to not have to. Do the work. You don’t want to get a violation.
u/FullBeat8638 is right that what is being asked of you is pretty standard. It was my experience as well.
Polygraphs aren’t fun. As others said, are not reliable. But also, give yourself the best chance of succeeding by being able to answer what they ask truthfully.
Because you are not on the registry does not mean you are not an offender. You are. You had a victim. Even if she lied. While her lying was wrong in soooo many ways, the responsibility was on you. Saying “she lied” is called minimizing and is going to make your experience at any treatment program a long and painful one.
You seem to be implying from your post that you’re a victim here. “Pretty invasive if you ask me”, “I’m not an offender”. You won’t “fail a poly for simply looking at porn”. You will fail a poly for lying. There is a BIG difference!
The restrictions you have are pretty standard across-the-board for someone on Probation. Those restrictions are not a result of your evaluation or the psychologist. Those restrictions are a result of your probation and usually standardized in each state, by the states SOMB.
If you get violated because you “look at porn once in a while“, that shows you can’t follow rules and require the supervision. If you’re unable to abstain from pornography for two years, it might be an indication that introspection is severely in need. I know. I’ve been there and had to do the same.
I suggest you take the next 2 years, do the work to realize the error of your ways, and be grateful that you don’t have to register as a result of this. You got off really lucky! Just search this group and you’ll confirm that.
Are you assigned therapy for anything specific or just SO stuff in general? Because my judge assigned me to “porn addiction” therapy specifically, but neither of the therapists I’ve seen thought I had that issue, and we were able to work out why I was looking at CP in the first place.
If you don’t think you can abstain from porn for 2 years even though slipping would have DISASTEROUS consequences, maybe you have an addiction?
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love if I could look at the stuff lol, but it’s not worth violating my supervision and having everything in my life nosedive just to look at a couple vids. I’ve thought about ways around it, but again, super not worth the risk.
Maybe just hit up bars and have real sex or something?
