Your statement is “I have no statement to give without an arrest and without a lawyer”.

    Do not talk to them.

  • [deleted]

Likely get a lawyer A few years ago I had a USPS package delivered to a few doors down by mistake. I went and got my package. & my landlord accused me of stealing even though it was mine. I ignored it, & ended up having the cops show up at my door and question me. Thought nothing of it since I didnt steal anything. Ended up getting pulled over for speeding or whatever weeks later and little did i know i had a warrant out for my arrest for petty theft (for my package i took) bc the landlord made a police report ~ I ended up getting a lawyer and had the case dropped, but the whole ordeal was BS. Kinda like how ur landlord is accusing you of stealing a camera lol that you didnt. *yah i moved out right after i got the case dropped/dismissed lol*

  • KidenStormsoarer

your only statement is that you have no statement, you know nothing about the camera, she made a false accusation and filed a false police report. we don’t talk to the police, they’re looking to make an arrest, not do actual work. your next step is to inform her that if she wants you to move out, she can refund your deposit and buy out your lease.

  • mousechick69

Never give a statement to police without your lawyer present.

  • Vahju

Document all interactions with your land lady. Save all the texts.

I would suggest take pictures of the building, especially where the camera supposedly was located.

I would suggest consulting with a lawyer to for further advice.

  • stevemcnugget

    Never talk to the cops.

  • techguy0270

I would advise against giving any kind of statement to the police without a lawyer being present since all you can do is talk yourself into a jail cell which does not benefit you. My guess is you are going to need a lawyer since I assume if you do not voluntarily leave the landlord will most likely go through the eviction process if she believes you are a thief.

  • whyputausername

Filing a false report is a crime. Not only can you request she is prosecuted you can sue her. I would make her day miserable as soon as possible.

  • XRaiderV1

do NOT talk to the cops, your answer should be ‘without a warrant slash arrest and a lawyer, I have nothing to say’ and hang up.

as to your landlord, sorry to say but that relationship’s likely unrecoverable and if I were you I’d begin searching for a new place asap.

  • Fabulous-Shallot1413

She can’t force you to move out if you are in a lease. You would have to directly break a rule that’s in the lease to be forced out. You should go give a statement to the police, make sure to tell them you are in a lease and when it ends. She can opt not to renew your lease at move out, but she can’t for a missing camera.

  • TigerShark_524

Call a lawyer, set a time for them to join you at the police station, and then call back the police and say “I’ll be there at this time with my lawyer, looking forward to clearing this up.”

  • gbeegz

Ask them to provide photo evidence of you taking the camera /s

  • HeadMembership

Don’t talk to the police, nothing good can come of it.

They want to pin a crime on you to make their quota, they don’t care about the truth.

  • 1Sharky7

Listen to the words of wisdom from these fine gentlemen https://youtu.be/RkN4duV4ia0?si=skSi9N0BmlszBIwa

  • Wide-Decision-4748

“I will not move out as I have done nothing wrong. If you would like Police to search my home they can bring a warrant I have nothing to hide.”

  • CTSwampyankee

This really isnÔÇÖt a hard one. If asked, ÔÇ£I have no idea what youÔÇÖre talking about. No, I didnÔÇÖt take anythingÔÇ£. As far as going out of your way to go to a Department, never do that. Basic on scene question? thatÔÇÖs the best time to derail accusations.

  • Zestyclose-Meat-2220

Is it better to go into the police and only say I have no statement and I have not seen the camera before full stop and refuse to answer any questions. Or should I explain that I think my landlady is falsely accusing me and explain how it couldnÔÇÖt be me. We lived together for 3 months in the same apartment and others lived there too during that time etc

  • hirexnoob

Give your statement and look at your contract?

  • Stargazer_0101

Go give your statement. Were you made aware they have cameras in the dwelling, if not, it was illegal without your consent.

  • GrapeApe131

Tell her to check the camera to see who took it. *Ba dum tssss!*

You donÔÇÖt have to return any calls from the police. If you do want to cooperate, lawyer up.

  • Aggressive_Camera612

Get a lawyer. Demand police report. Demand proof of accusation. Sue the landlord.

  • Own_Carry7396

    Shut the f@ck up Friday

  • uppen-atom

Give the statement and move out, end of this saga.

  • forevernoob88

Never willingly go into a police station when called. If you need to be questioned, they will show up at your doorstep. At which point you can lawyer up.

There is an old saying that goes along the lines of “give me 5 lines written by the hand of most honest of men. In those, I will find enough to hang him” so give them little to nothing from which they can interpret to incriminate you.

  • Longjumping_Owl5311

A huge sign of dementia is thinking everyone is stealing from you. Our elderly aunt blamed my wife for stealing her pants. My wife had bought her those pants. She misplaces something and she says everybody is stealing. No point in arguing. It accomplishes nothing. We just agree and carry on. So sad to see her like this.

  • miletest

Can someone go to the cops and say I think this person stole something. And the cops do this?
