You can either choose to complain under the laws of your state, https://housing.az.gov/general-public/landlord-and-tenant-act

    A doorstop/jam might be easier/less effort.

  • crazyliver

Why don’t you buy a wedge that goes under the door to prevent them from coming in unannounced? Should be pretty cheap.

  • That_White_Wall

The description of the disputes sounds like they are claiming you have a license agreement contingent on your employment, not a lease agreement. You’ll want to confer with a lawyer competent in your jurisdiction to determine if you have any tenancy rights. Bring a copy of the contract to the meeting.

NAL – Do you have a proper written agreement for your housing situation? I’m unsure how it would work in this situation, legally you are a tenant and they (your job/landlord) must give notice to enter your premises.

There is no reason for anyone to be entering your room at all, and if you are able to, switch out the door handle for one with a lock. If that isn’t doable, they sell “travel locks” that can be used while you are in the room. It won’t prevent someone from entering while you’re gone though. You can also set up a camera in your room to record who is entering.

I copied this from google but this is the statue for Arizona in regards to a landlord entering a tenants housing.

“The tenant cannot refuse lawful access to the landlord. However the landlord must give the tenant two days notice of his intent to enter and may enter only at reasonable times, except in case of an emergency. ARS §33-1343.”

Not sure what’s allowed, first time commenting here. I am not a lawyer. I work at a facility (different state) that has a temporary housing unit on premise for our seasonal workers, so I was curious.

Quick search on AZ seasonal tenancy laws found me a large PDF of info, but the following seemed applicable:

    33-1343 Access

    D. The landlord shall not abuse the right to access or use it to harass the tenant. Except in
case of emergency or if it is impracticable to do so, the landlord shall give the tenant at least
two days’ notice of the landlord’s intent to enter and enter only at reasonable times.
    E. The landlord has no other right of access except by court order and as permitted by
sections 33-1369 and 33-1370, or if the tenant has abandoned or surrendered the
    premises.

Arizona Residential Landlord and Tenant Act, per AS Dept of Housing

    Hope this helps.

HR is lying to you, lawyer up.

You need a real plaintiff’s employment lawyer in Arizona not Reddit. Good luck!

  • KiiDBlaze

IIRC in Arizona, any pay of rent w/o a signed form is an informal lease: i.e. them accepting money from you and you signing a form that states that money is lease money basically screws them. You are considered a tenant, and have tenant rights.

  • norahceh

If this is connected with your employment it sounds a bit like sexual harassment from the outside. Walking in on you undressed is allowable as a condition of your employment? I think not.

YMMV, I would check with a lawyer.
