Next month: Web Summit – What’s Next for the Tech Industry?

Next month, the annual Web Summit will bring together over 70,000 people in Lisbon. This four-day summit attracts representatives from fast-growth businesses, policymakers, founders, and CEOs of some of the world’s largest tech companies. The main question that will be addressed during the event is: what’s next for the tech industry?

Web Summit is also hosting the KPMG Private Enterprise Global Tech Innovator competition, featuring fast-growth businesses from 23 countries. These businesses will compete head-to-head to be crowned the ultimate 2023 innovator.

If you are unable to attend the event in person, you can register to attend virtually here.

Inovus Medical: From UK Tech Innovator to Global Finalist

Inovus Medical, based in St. Helen’s, UK, emerged as the UK winner of the KPMG Tech Innovator competition in July. As they prepare for the global finals in Lisbon, we spoke with Dr. Elliot Street, the CEO of Inovus Medical, to learn more about their journey and preparations.

Post-UK Win Growth:

Elliot Street: Since winning the competition, our team has been incredibly busy. We have established our USA headquarters, dedicated to sales support, implementation, distribution, and technical support for our rapidly growing US customer base. Additionally, we have doubled our USA headcount and recently announced a major partnership that will require our technology to be used for training over 10,000 physicians across the USA.

Preparing for the Global Finals:

Elliot Street: While the global finals approach, I will be in the USA, supporting the ongoing expansion of our business and focusing on delivering on the goals and plans we presented in our pitch during the UK final. I am hopeful that by the time we reach Lisbon, our achievements will have surpassed the figures we presented in July, which will make for an even stronger pitch at the global finals. We are thrilled for the networking opportunities that Web Summit provides and will be actively reaching out to stakeholders such as investors and strategic partners to arrange meetings and collaborations.

Learnings from the UK Leg:

Elliot Street: The UK leg of the competition taught us the value of every second in a pitch. We had to effectively articulate our complex technology and mature business model in just three minutes. Additionally, we learned the importance of enjoying the pitch and the overall event, as these opportunities are rare for founders.

Anticipation for the Global Competition:

Elliot Street: We are most excited about meeting the other global finalists and competing against the best tech innovators from around the world. We look forward to learning from the cohort and gaining valuable insights to bring back to our team in the North West of the UK.

Pitching to a Global Audience:

Elliot Street: I may have a few surprises prepared for the global audience, but you’ll have to wait until the day to find out!

Discoveries through the Competition:

Elliot Street: Participating in the competition was an interesting exercise for us. It highlighted how capital-efficient we have been in building our business, achieving significant scale with a relatively small amount of capital. This experience further emphasized the power of patient urgency, which will continue to be our focus as we aim for further growth.

The Future of Inovus Medical:

Elliot Street: Our main excitement lies in working towards our mission of becoming the world’s partner for surgical training. This year, we have witnessed a strong resonance of our mission with end-users, leading to rapid technology adoption and a proven impact on surgical skill and patient care quality. Our team is energized by the prospect of helping to save over 1.5 million lives per year through improved surgical care.
