>I was under the impression that insurance got cheaper when you turned 25.
Nope, hasn’t been that way for a while.
Insurance is based on driving history, your postal code, car model, replacement and repair costs for that car model, etc…
use an insurance broker to shop rates to see it’s too high or not.
Depending on your driving history (length of time insured, accidents/tickets etc) that might be reasonable. I pay $85 monthly for insurance on my beater 2009 Corolla, no collision coverage. IÔÇÖve been driving for 21 years, no at-fault collisions, no tickets of any kind. This is with Economical. Talk to a broker, thatÔÇÖs what I did and saved $20 a month switching from TD.
edit: this is in Edmonton.
Man why in the world do you not have collision on your car ?
> I was under the impression that insurance got cheaper when you turned 25.
Back when I was a young male like yourself, my insurance went UP when I turned 25.
You are in your mid twenties driving a sportscar. That doesn’t look good to the insurance company’s underwriters
Want cheaper insurance, buy a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier.
That cheap. Tf you rambling on about lol
$178 is a bit high if you have no claims and a cleanish record, but itÔÇÖs not crazy, especially if your insurance didnÔÇÖt renew yet.
WRXs are also very expensive to insure. Guess which car model gets the most speeding tickets? Yup. WRXs get into accidents quite often too, so their insurance is higher than comparable models from different manufacturers.
Try shopping around though, $178 is quite high for no collision coverage.
In Alberta, they can do whatever the fuck they want.
i pay 350 per month at 20 yrs old on a 2016 mazda 3 ur solid bro
What happened to Alberta and the insurance being cheap? We pay 300 a month for the 2018 F-150 and 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. Never had a speeding ticket, never an accident. Blows my mind it’s 3600 a year and we’ve driven for 20 years.
It was not that long ago that I remember the stories of car insurance in BC was equivalent to insuring three vehicles in Alberta like a truck, car and motorcycle.
Insurance broker here. Have you had your renewal since you hit 25? It has to renew, it won’t change mid-term. $178 does seem a little high for no collision and a (assuming) clean record, but location plays a big factor and I live in Ontario and cant speak to yours.
Insurance companies vary wildly in rates. As someone else said, reach out to a broker. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t cost you more. The insurance company pays for the broker’s services, not the customer.
Other things that make your insurance more expensive is having your insurance cancelled due to non-payment or a gap in insurance coverage.
Seems fair but you should have collision, insurance is more based on how many years you’ve been driving not so much your age.
Why are you asking Reddit? Get different quotes from different providers and you’ll get an idea of how much you should be paying based on experience, postal code etc. What is asking Reddit gonna do? You’re gonna call your insurance and say “um yes hello Reddit says I’m paying too much plz stop” I’m sorry if this seems harsh but people just cant be bothered to do the simplest things for themselves and just ask others
178/m at 25 is cheap in Alberta, as I assume you have less than 10 years driving experience. Not having collision cuts down the cost, but I’d probably add that back on, unless its a car you really don’t care about.
Any tickets will hurt your insurance just as much, but does seem high with no collision. Must be driving far to work from home implements it a lot to.
That is not a bad rate.
I pay 182/month on a 2023 Lexus with my daughter as a secondary driver. No accidents at fault, no tickets, 32 years driving experience and olive in one of the highest insurance rate postal codes in probably the country.
My wife pays $130/month on a 2015 Corolla (not beige)
That’s cheap as shit considering it’s a wrx and you are 25.
I was paying $405/month last year for a new Mazda CX5, i.e., before i turned 25. It went down to $385/month this year.
No accidents at fault, no tickets, but only a few yrs of Canadian driving experience.
I’m in Quebec, I pay about 110$ for a 2021 Acura TLX, full insurance
I insure two vehicles for that price in MB, with comprehensive, $10m liability, $200 deductible with no fault wildlife and free glass claims.
People need to realize insurance differ between provinces in more ways than just rates. There is literally no point in even mentioning what your rates are to OP if you live outside of Calgary or Alberta for that matter.
ItÔÇÖs also a hard market right now and the insurance cap was removed in AB so auto insurance has increases significantly in the last few years. Last i checked, basic mandatory coverages (i.e, PLPD) for a newly licensed driver was $2600+.
Anyhow, your rate sounds a bit high without collision but we also donÔÇÖt know where you live(postal code), how the car is rated, vehicle use, your claims history, number of years insured & licensed, any minor/major convictions, etc. I agree with the other commenter who suggested using a broker to shop around when your current policy is set to renew.
