**Concern about Speeding Ticket Impact on Visa Application**
Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my recent experience while visiting AU (I’m originally from the Philippines). I received a speeding ticket for going 74 in a 60 zone in downtown Lavington, which ended up costing me a hefty $1580. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to pay the fine before leaving as the notice arrived after I had already returned home.
Now, I’m left wondering if this unpaid speeding ticket could potentially cause any issues when I apply for a visa to revisit AU in the future.

Yes, pay it.
Sounds like it’s been increased because it was a company vehicle? If they nominate you as the driver (or you nominate yourself) it should reduce it to only a few hundred.
The bigger crime would be you visiting Australia and spending time in Lavington. Of all the places you could visit!
Yes. Pay the fine.
The fine should be $316. The fine has been increase by 5x because it was done in a company vehicle, presumably a rental, and they don’t know who the driver is. For as long as this remains the case and until you are nominated the fine has nothing to do with you and I don’t see how it could impact your visa prospects. If you are nominated, pay the fine. Why would you risk your visa prospects for $316?
Someone else will certainly know more than me, but $1580 seems to me to be the fine issued to a company that should be reduced when a driver is nominated. The fine for an individual is around $300.
That distinction is probably moot though, because you’d have agreed to have fines passed on as part of your rental agreement.
The question I’d like to see answered is: does the car rental company nominating OP as the driver change the consequences here? If the government issues a (smaller) fine to OP that’s then unpaid, that’d impact their ability to get a visa in the future. If they didn’t, wouldn’t the “fine” actually just be a debt to the rental place and therefore be really unlikely to impact a future visa?
“Downtown Lavington” is sending me….
Thanks for all the comments. I was already nominated by my company but i have not received any notification as to how much it will be.
I am still going back so im a bit worried with the visa thing but I will try to talk to my employer and ask them to pay it for me. Then i’ll pay them afterwards 😂
Thanks guys!!
P.s : Lavington suc……. 😂
It was a company car that im using and as far as i know, i have been nominated. Can i pay the fine overseas?
