If I remember it’s great if you are disciplined and avoid the inactivity fee. The cashback makes it a lossmaker for the company, but the inactivity fee is where they make money.

If you have an American express card they frequently offer 10% back when you purchase a ticket through LNER. Tickets don’t have to be for their services so could give you a nice statement balance whilst still getting your ticket.

  • itallstartedwithapub

Switch from Trainline to Uber for your tickets and you’ll get 10% back in Uber credits on every ticket. At least until August 2024 (though they’ve pushed back that end date several times).

Complete savings are complete scam artists. They make money by signing up people who don’t realise and never use their service but get charged £10 a month

r/beermoneyuk has the answer you’re looking for. There’s another scheme with more flexibility, NX something. More info there.

For train tickets specifically, Complete Savings is not worth it especially compared with Trainline. You will save more than the cashback you earn by changing to use a better retailer that doesn’t charge a booking fee. You can use any operator to buy any operator’s tickets, the system is fully joined up.

There are regular offers on various cards for % cashback, LNER is a common one but Avanti, Transpennine and others pop up occasionally at 5%+. There is also ongoing cashback on a few retailers on TopCashback etc, eg Chiltern and Northern are on there.

There is also the Uber offer at the moment where you get 10% in credit (can be used towards future trains) – this is probably the best avalible at the moment.

Monzo also regularly have cashback for train tickets. At the moment I have 5% on LNER. You can book any UK journey through any of the train providers apps so even though I don’t live in an LNER operating area I use their app for my commute at the moment.

Can make a season ticket or a Flexi more appealing with 5% or more back.

  • SlightPraline509

Not sure on complete savings but if you use British Airways or Amex, you can get Avios points via Trainline transactions

  • Captain_Levi_00

It depends on if you get it much cheaper with split ticket savings. You can only use the Trainline website to get cash back and not the app. But the website doesn’t have split ticket savings.

If you have a disability or work in university, you can get the Disabled Persons Railcard and 16-25 Railcard.

  • TryingToFindLeaks

Are you in the part of the country that can make use of the Gold Card trick?

  • Complex-Bowler-6864

    Short answer: Yes.

    Long answer: Yeeeeessss.

Use TransPennine Express via Complete Savings to get 10% cash back without any booking fee. Most of the time they register my purchase twice, so 20% cash back. Halifax card cash back sometimes gives another 5% cash back, stackable. Also sometimes I get the delay compensation, so another 25-50% back.

Some people mention that it is a scam but it is not true. As long as you play by the rule (claim the monthly bonus), you are all right.

Bonus: Some people mention gift cards, if you know how to make use of them, you can buy things at Argos for 30% cheaper.

  • warlord2000ad

I have got years said complete savings is a scam.

However the £15 monthly fee cash be made back by making a purchase. So I buy 1 item from eBay to avoid the fee. So far it’s been ok. 10% off at eBay and haven holidays has been useful so far. You can get money off at Samsung and Currys too which can be handy. I was also getting it at pizzahut but it’s no longer tracking anymore for some reason.

  • jiellis

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned yet but I always book through raileasy.co.uk for cheaper tickets than Trainline

  • mlr432

Airtime Rewards offer 5% cashback on (any) trains booked through LNER, if that’s of interest.

  • lok0919

For sure, it’s totally worth it! I’ve been using CompleteSavings for years, and it’s saved me over £1000. Plus, you can grab the One4all gift card (up to £100 per month) at 20% off and use it at loads of places like M&S, Argos, Currys, and more. And if you sign up for CompleteSavings through Trainline, all you gotta do is make one transaction a month to get back the monthly subscription fee. Easy peasy!

  • cloudreed

Yes it’s worth it, just make sure whenever you buy tickets it’s through their website link and then onto Trainline.

I’ve made profit easily from doing this and the monthly bonus covers the monthly fee

  • haRacz

Use ‚TrC | TfW’ to not pay ticket fee from Trainline for every ticket

  • allofthethings

Complete Savings do cashback on Transport for Wales too. I’ve not tried it myself yet, but it looks like you can book anything on the train network through there without the booking fee.
