Whether it’s right or wrong, I find one reason, even if it’s only one reason to live for. I for one make that my only goal, and all else does not matter.

I tend to fill my cup daily with things to live for. That reason could be, wherever you are, I wrap my arms around you and tell you, life will not win. And if you no longer want to fight, be my spotter, and I’ll send them down range for you.

Hey brother do you have someone to call? Do you need help?

  • Consistent-Pilot-535

My youngest kid. I was crying about this same shit a few hours ago. I just hugged him. Fucking tearing up now.

My kids! I’m miserable every day but I try to survive for them

I’ve been on the same path for almost 20 yrs. Just recently started the PTSD program at my local VA. Get help. I know it sucks to feel vulnerable, but you can’t let the bad thoughts win. There is so much help out there for you. You just need to take that first step in getting it. You can do this!

I remember the good parts about myself. I remember the good memories and times I succeeded. I think about all the times I brought joy or laughter into peoples lives. Even if I don’t talk to any of them anymore. I start very small. I remember I am going through a lot of shit and give myself a break. I take it easy on myself. I would not allow someone else to treat me the way I treat myself sometimes.

I take it one day at a time. One little thing at a time. Finding a good therapist has helped me so much. I got one outside of the VA. He see’s me on a sliding scale, so its not too expensive. I’ve built a relationship with him and he knows everything about me. He accepts me 100%.

Finding solid support groups have been helpful as well. 12-step, veteran focused, stuff at the local college, whatever works. This can be challenging and its important to take it slow and not rush. Even one good person is enough to help me get back into society.

I called the crisis line the other day just to talk about my depression and how bad it can get sometimes. I just needed to vent at 2am. The counselor on the other end listened and helped me remember some tools that I have to get through a rough patch. I just needed a sounding box to listen to me. Sometimes thats all it takes.

It was great that you reached out on this subreddit. Keep the faith. Little by little.

I smoke weed 24/7 sleep during daylight and then stay up by myself at night

I’ve utilized this twice in recent months and it is a big help. The folks on the other end are there for you, and will refer you to more resources if you want.

Don’t be intimidated by “suicide hotline” — it is a safe place to call if you are dealing with any crisis, which by definition means any event that exceeds our ability to effectively cope or respond. You don’t have to be on the verge of suicide or other violence in order to call and have someone to talk to.

Same boat sort of, just a feeling that not being alive would be easier but I don’t want to hurt myself. Like I’ll be driving down the street and just think that it wouldn’t suck if I got taken out by some cement truck.

  • Ancient-Talk2430

    Therapy and medication.

Suicidal ideation isn’t everyday now, but I still have my moments. Haven’t tried since 2 years ago, but I don’t wanna fuck up and end up in the psych ward again so called it quits on that.

When it comes to weed, be careful. I have 0 self control so I end up smoking all day every day, and it usually worsens depression and anxiety if you become that reliant. It’s a drug, treat it with respect.

Meanwhile I do school to keep me busy, but I have a lot of mood swings from being bipolar, so I usually end up dropping out every other semester. Been at it for a while now since 2020, and have 3 semesters left…

  • ResponsibilityOne470

I have the same problem. My health is bad and I decided yesterday that if I ever get lung cancer from smoking cigarettes I’m not going to have it treated.

So, wanting to die and actively trying to kill yourself are two completely different things. It’s actually kind of normal (this is per my therapist). Wanting to die is just when your mind feels like it’s running out of options on how to cope with something. There’s no specific answer on how to cope. Try and find a counselor buddy!

  • SomeSkill3124

I just tell myself to be patient. You will die soon enough. We are all on this earth for a short time. If you want to die just sit back and watch the grass grow, tree change color and snow fall. Just be patient. Time will come get your ass eventually. In the mean time figure a couple of things you want to do before you get old and die. If you do those things pick out a couple more things. I’m saying this as someone who is ready to meet his maker. Other than my kids there isn’t much I have to live for. I’m not complaining I just feel like I put the best years of my life behind me. Now Im just going to sit back and wait for him to come get me when he is ready. I like watching people live their lives. Wondering if they get any enjoyment out of it like I used to. I do this Everytime I see people just walking down the street. Fuck I got old quick.
