If you had one condition at 10% total will be at 10%.
If your total is 90% and you add condition that is 10% you will be at 91% so effectively 90.
Higher your total the more disabling or numerous your conditions have to be.
Va rounds up so 94% is 90% total and 95% is 100.
9 times out of 10 just use the calculators online from various law firms or app stores.
You take the largest percentage and start there. Then you take the next largest percentage and apply it to the remainder. So if you had a 70% as your largest percentage, and then your next largest was 20%, it would be 20% of the remaining 30%, which equates to 6%
Start with biggest number first, thats 70%. That leaves 30% left from there. You take your next biggest number. That would be 20%, and then it’s 20% from 30%, which is 6%. So that would make you rounding up 80% disabled. And then you would take your 10%, which is next and then so on and so forth. You really do need 2 big numbers to be a 100% or 2 big numbers that are bilateral conditions. If you have one big number and a bunch of 10%, you could end up with over 200% in disability and still not be 100% service-connected.
VA math makes as much sense as a hippo in a kiddy pool. I’m dealing with their crap also.

Yeah about that. Their math is not 1 + 1 = 2 . You need a calculator of them to get the math right. I think their website has one
Quick question, for IBS, did you have a diagnosis or only proof that you were taking meds or just described your everyday living ? I’m trying to put in for IBS but I only have meds from the VA and IBS is on my “problem list” but I don’t have an official diagnosis.
My ratings total 220 to get to 110 and it took awhile to get there.

VA Math is actually pretty simple:
After your PTSD of 70% you only have a total of 30% left to rate.
So the 20% shoulder claim is actually 20% of the 30 left. and 20% of 30 is……… 6
So those two give you 76%.. Keep doing that kind of math and you will come up with your percentage. At the end of you calculations Round to nearest 10%. (84% rounds to 80%, 85% rounds to 90%)
70% leaves 30%. 20% of 30 is 6 which rounds up to 80%. The 10s don’t do shit.
What I don’t get is IBS rating… how is it 0% was the pain and issues not frequent enough/bad enough for a rating?
VA math starts at 100% and goes down. You start with the highest percentage disability first. So 70% of 100% equals 70 so you remove 70 from 100 to get 30% left. Now here’s the tricky part.the next highest disability is 20% so you’ll take 20% out of the remaining 30% to give you 30% minus 6% giving you 24% left. At this point you would be considered 24% “healthy” and 76% disabled. The VA rounds so you’ll be at the 80% mark on paper.

the higher your combined percentage goes up the less amount you get added percentages are given out in 10% intervals. You’re combined is rounded up or down to the nearest 10th.

Basically, it isn’t additive, it keeps shaving off percentages.
So, an 70 , a 20, and 3 10s means:
A 100% healthy person becomes 30% healthy after the 70% disability rating.
Then the 30% healthy person becomes 24% healthy after 20% of that 30 (6) is taken down.
Then 24% becomes 21.6% healthy after 10% #1, because it’s reducing 24% by 10% (2.4).
Then 21.6% becomes 19.44% healthy after 10% #2
Then 19.44% healthy becomes 17.496% healthy after 10% #3.
Then they round to the nearest decile, so
17.496% healthy and 82.504% disabled becomes 80% disabled.
I believe two additional 10% disabilities would increase you to 85.82824% disabled, and therefore rounded up to 90%.

You’re at about 82% if my brain math is accurate. This means they will round you down to 80%.
Side note, percentages do not add that way.
Example: 50% of 100 is 50. Then, 50% of that 50 is 25. Then 50% of 25 is about 12.5 and so on.
This is how “VA math” works. If in doubt, use one of many VA benefit % calculators out there.
Looks like you just claimed anything and everything possible within your medical record so they gave you a bunch of 0’s aside from the shit they can’t deny like hearing. Ringing in your ears? Shoulder somewhat different than normal? Can’t prove you’re lying… let’s give him 10% here and 20% there for a 50% total which equals jack shit. There’s your math.
I was told it’s the percentage of what you have left. So your first 50% puts you at 50% (out of 100). The 2nd 50% puts you at 75% (50% out of 50%). And yes 94% and higher rounds to 100%.

Punching in your numbers to an online calculator, it shows 82% overall, which rounds to 80%. I see some others have already explained how to do the VA math.
Side note: If you decide to fight and get another 20% somewhere (possibly IBS), it will take you to 87%, which will round to 90%.
I believe they take your largest percentage of disability, which for you is 70.
That leaves you 30% whole now, since the other 70% is disabled now.
The other percentages start to come off what’s left.
So 20% of 30 is actually 6. Which puts you at 76 with 24% whole leftover.
10% of 24 is 2.4, so you’re at 78.4 now which leaves you 21.6 whole.
Take the other 10% off (2.2, essentially) and you’re at 80.8, which rounds down to 80%.
I’m not 100% sure but that’s how it was explained to me, and the math seems to work out in your case.
