Assuming the seller doesnÔÇÖt cancel the registration, then you should be fine I believe. They sign the NSW rego papers for disposal to you, they keep a section and you keep the main part. Showing it is registered.

A car can be registered in any state and drive through any other state.

When you buy the car, fill out the transfer papers. The car is now yours.

You drive it to QLD and start the registration process detailed [here.](https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/registration/transfer/interstate)

You have 14 days to complete the process.

With the seller’s agreement, it can remain registered to them in NSW while you drive it back. You can then surrender the plates to cancel the registration (or you may have to mail them back to the seller for them to do it, check with NSW roads department). You then get a safety certificate in QLD and register it.

Make sure you have insurance for the car in your name.

  • kimbasnoopy

Make sure the transfer is organised and it is insured, otherwise you will have to register in QLD based on your state’s rules
