Job Opportunity and Legal Concerns

Background

Hi everyone, I’m excited to share that I’ve recently landed a job at a car dealership. As part of the onboarding process, I need to obtain a sales license and get fingerprinted at a police station to complete the necessary requirements. However, I’ve recently discovered that I have an outstanding warrant for unpaid court fines.

The Concern

My main concern is whether I’ll be arrested when I go to get fingerprinted at the police station. I’m worried that the warrant will be detected during the fingerprinting process, and I’ll be taken into custody. This is causing me a lot of stress and anxiety, as I’m not sure what to expect or how to proceed.

The Impact

Having an outstanding warrant can have serious consequences, including being arrested and potentially facing additional fines or even jail time. As a new employee, I’m concerned about the impact this could have on my job and my ability to support myself and my family. I’m also worried about the potential damage to my reputation and the embarrassment of being arrested in public.

If you’re wanted and have no desire to rectify the situation, it’s generally not a good idea to willingly walk into a police station

    Probably?

    Pay the fines.

You may not get arrested when you are fingerprinted, unless the police run you through their system; however, it sounds like they do a background check for you to get a license. The unpaid fines are likely to show up in the background check and you may be turned down for the license. I would pay the fines as soon as possible if you can.

You might be arrested.  If it’s just fines they might not actually hold you. Might just give you a court date to show up later. It depends on a million things including how bored the cops are.

If it’s nothing serious I’d be tempted to call the court and get the warrant addressed ahead of time. The judge will be more favorable to you if you went in in your own rather than waiting till the cops arrested you. Makes it seem like you are trying to take responsibility for the fines.

Are the unpaid fines and warrant from the same county that you live and work in? It’s fairly common for bench warrants to be non-extradition because the county doesn’t want to pay for prisoner transport. If they’re local fines you might end up in jail until you can see a judge. If they’re from somewhere else you may or may not end up taking a long ride in a police van.

Pay your fines on line and then go take care of business. All of there computers are linked to so many web sites, that you would be spending the nite there

Honestly, you’ll probably get a recite date, if not turn yourself in on a day other than Friday. Tell them you’re just about back to work, but hoping that you can convert your costs to community service. If it’s non-violent, and the jail is at capacity, you’re the least of their concerns.

    get on a payment plan

Contact the chief judge for the court and explain your situation. You may be able to walk in to court and pay the fines at the same time as your fingerprints.

Call someone and try to organize a way to pay the fines. It may be scary but better to just call them and ask how you can resolve it. I’m sure they will try to help you sort it out.

  • Unknown4everandever

They are doing a background check because they are getting you bonded for insurance purposes.
You’ll very possibly get caught in the process.
Also – find a different job. Sold cars for many years. Definitely don’t recommend it.
