Medical Dispute in a Different Town

A Personal Crisis

I used to live in Town 1, where I had a good General Practitioner (GP) and was generally satisfied with the medical care I received. However, circumstances have changed, and I have since relocated to Town 2.

Friction with the New Health Board

Unfortunately, my experience in Town 2 has been negative. The entire health board seems ineffective, and all the GPs have a strict policy against prescribing a specific medicine that I genuinely need. This has left me frustrated and considering taking legal action against the health board.

Seeking a Quicker Solution

Given that Town 2 is not too far away from Town 1, and considering my driving capabilities, I came up with an alternative solution. It would be more practical to re-register with my previous GP in Town 1. However, this requires me to convincingly claim that I still reside in Town 1.

A Moral Dilemma

Naturally, I am hesitant to dishonestly declare my current living situation. I am torn between my desire to receive the medical care I need and the moral implications of lying. This raises the question: am I breaking any laws by declaring a false address?

Legal Guidance Needed

As I grapple with this dilemma, I am aware that I need to understand the relevant laws governing this situation. In Wales, where I now reside, I require guidance on which statutes, if any, I may be violating by misrepresenting my address.

It’s entirely legal to register at a GP’s that is closer to e.g. your place of work, see [here](https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/gps/registering-with-a-gp-outside-your-area/).

It is a discretion thing from the practices, they can say no iirc, but you could also try explaining to your old practice and see if they would take you back. I’m not sure if mentioning the medication issue would help or hinder that.

There is a practical matter you appear not to have considered: where will your post go?

Any appointment letters etc are going to be posted to the address provided, and if you don’t live there you’re not going to receive them.

I don’t think it’s a criminal offence, but likewise they can likely take you off their register if they find out.

NAL It is unlikely they would follow it up but “Fraud my false representation” is probably the obvious one.

Falsely declaring to obtain access to services which you would otherwise not be entitled to, causing a financial impact based on that action.
