I’ve seen this happen. There was a scam going around where a phone company employee, Verizon for example, would copy or switch your SIM card to a different phone. Essentially, the phone they transferred the number to would get texts for one time passcodes. To the bank, it looks like your device. The way these instances were resolved is by calling your cell provider, ask if the SIM card number was transferred to a different SIM card and ask which employee did it. That usually was the person who committed the crime.

the scam here is zelle. there is no fraud protection with zelle, which is by design. i’d be interested to know how they can “see” that the transfers were made with your handset. my next step would be the CFPB (and pull your money).
Clark Howard has been railing against Zelle for years because of their lack of resolution for fraud.
This is pretty scary that something like this can happen.

I’m not a regular user of Zelle. Used it once to send 200 bucks to someone over a year ago. After reading this and a few of the comments, I went to my bank account online and disassociated Zelle from my account by removing the email address from Zelle settings.
That’s some crazy stuff. Scenarios like this is why I keep a very minimal amount in my “main” bank’s checking and saving accounts. Wish you luck man
Sim swap attack. Someone stole your phone information and cloned their own device using details they must have found from your phone provider.
Most providors will offer sim replacements without any further proof that it is you unless you request replacements in person only.

Could your phone be compromised? What phone do you have? Is it jailbroken?

It looks like the maximum daily transfer limit for Zelle via Chase is $500 – $10,000.
Step 1: go to your local county sheriff’s office or police station. Make a report for fraud. It’s best you print off your statement with all charges for the officers.
Step 2: depending on location, you may have to wait a few days to get the police report. Whenever you have it, call chase back and open a fraud alert with them. Ask for the persons email whom you speak with and email them a copy of the police report.
Step 3: they should mark it all as fraud. If not, contact the CFPB.
Step 4: delete your Zelle account. Remove your cards from ALL online accounts. Entering it in manually is annoying, but having information stored anywhere is a risk for hacking and fraud. The only place my bank account is linked is to my credit cards for payments.
File reports with both the CFPB and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). You should hear back from the bank very quickly. Also file a police report as others have suggested.
Gunna be real. Had something sorta similar with chase. Involved gpay scam instead of zelle.
Same response from chase. I went through all the other options and no luck. Only thing left was to sue chase.
Luckily it was only 400 and not 10000 but there are many similar stories on the chase subreddit.

You need the bank to confirm the phone used for the transactions (make model number etc). You should also ask for locations. On the bank end the banks are able to see if this is a new device that logged in and the ip location. They should also be able to tell you when you signed up for zelle ( if it was through their platform).
Make sure cases are opened for all the dates since there is a statue on how long you can report fraud.
Start a claim with CFPB. They will take that seriously.
If you are in the US, and absolutely did not initiate/authorize any of the Zelle transactions, Chase by federal law must reimburse you (CFPB Regulation E). Even Zelle [tells you this](https://www.zellepay.com/safety-education/fraud-scams-overview).

Chase may need you to submit a dispute in writing and/or you may need to ask Chase specifically how to submit a Reg E claim. If they still deny your claim you could take it up with the CFPB.
Call again, and this time, ask immediately to speak to the manager. I suspect the agent you talked to just was following protocol, and this is an exceptional case beyond their protocol (or even problem solving ability…). The best person to help you out who has seen the most exceptions to the rule is the manager. If not that, then go in person to your banker. Either way you need to raise this to the right person. Your typical call rep will likely not have the tools or ability to understand your situation.
Can I ask, were you by chance in FL when this happened?
Maybe this is mischief by the Bank? What I mean is maybe the Bank is stealing from you? In this case, you may need to file a lawsuit against the bank, or join a class action. … It’s not unheard of for banks to have these kind of “errors.”
In order to have zelle you need a bank, just report the transaction with the bank.
