## AI Legalese Decoder: Helping with Bank Account Scams
I am writing this in absolute rage as it should be common sense not to give out your bank account to strangers and get yourself in suspicious shit but here we are. My 14 year old stupid brother has basically became a money mule for his money mule “friend” Lloyds has closed his account and I have to clean up his mess even though telling him countless times to not be stupid.
My main worry is if he’s got a cat 6 Cifas which what from I know bars him from basically all banking services for 6 years, I’m being harsh but maybe he deserves such a punishment. Any advice would be appreciated, I would say my main priority is to check if he’s got a Cifas marker but I have no clue how to do that.

I’d be surprised if Lloyds have given him a CAT6 given his age.
I have friends who were as stupid, I’m 21. At the time they were about 15/16. It’s incredibly dumb and I thought as much at the time. They were shocked to get CIFAS’d, but they still managed to get student loans, credit cards, bank accounts. Your brother has been a big fat idiot and needs telling as much (and why!), but will recover.
it is harsh but fair, he won’t be able to continue being a money mule due to all the markers on him and so the problem is solved for the banks
he might get a basic account or resort to cashing cheques at banks and having the cash on him
surprised he did not take a handling fee
Unfortunately this is very common among young people, I remember when I was 16/17 plenty of people I knew fell victim to this exact scenario
I think people are being too harsh on OP’s brother, yes he’s incredibly dumb for making this mistake but so are most 14 year olds
He will need to contact CIFAS and submit a DSAR. Once he has this, if Lloyd’s have added a marker he can raise a complaint and explain the situation, perhaps submit any evidence that shows that his intent wasn’t malicious (if this is the case). Things like his age and the amount may be taken into consideration. If they decline to remove the marker if there is one he can always escalate the case to the financial ombudsman service.
Maybe this is what he needs to actually learn ?
The high street bank I work for only CIFAS 18 -55 but in extreme circumstances (high amounts of fraudulent funds) we would cross those barriers and it is quite rare we do that. Your brother is an idiot but I’m sure you’ll do a good job educating him now, scare him straight.
I had to google what a money mule was and I still don’t really understand it, sorry for your brother and hope you get some resolution
Although he did the crime, let’s not forget he’s only 14. Extremely naive and susceptible to taken advantage of. My peers who were at college, over 30 of them were involved, got caught aswell with some not getting caught. Sucks that he’s banned, but atleast he’ll be fine when he’s 20.

OP ask your brother to do request a credit file report, any cifas marker that was applied should show there. Next tell him to contact his bank and log a complaint to dispute the marker, all things going well they should be able to help further from there
Your brother is 14. He needs help, not abused
Without wanting to scare you, your brother has been dealing with criminals who are happy to exploit his young age and naiveity. Whatever happens with the CIFAS marker, please have a serious conversation about trusting people. I raise this in case the same people ask for other ‘favours’ in future e.g. delivering a package or keeping an item safe for them.
You sound very salty, people and exp kids make mistakes. Rather than take this opportunity to teach you are throwing toys outta the pram on how its unfair on you
Your priority is to act your age
Wth is a money mule ?
Why do you say you need to clean up his mess?
You don’t need to.
His account is now closed, so it is up to him whether he can now get any other type of account or not.
At 14 he is quite old enough to research this himself.
If he can’t get an account, he just has to go without one. Assuming he lives with his parents until 18, he can simply not have a bank account.
