# Situation with Amazon Germany and Riverty Debt Collection Agency
Hello, Irish guy here with an online Kazakh friend (still learning German & English) living in Germany. She bought something from Amazon Germany, but the item was not delivered, and it got returned back to the seller. She then used her banking app to get her money back. In hindsight, she realizes she should have gotten the refund from the Amazon website, but that’s 20/20. Now Amazon has sent the debt to their debt collection agency, Riverty. She has communicated both with Amazon Germany and Riverty. To me it appears there has been a total breakdown in communication between Riverty and Amazon Germany, because Amazon insists on her settling with Riverty and said that they’ll then refund her. However, the debt agency has now added costs & interest on top of the initial amount, initially €21 + €0.38 interest and now it’s been increased to €103.99 (total or extra, not sure) with another deadline in 2 weeks. They keep emailing her while misunderstanding/ignoring her emails back. This is causing her a lot of tears, stress and anxiety, she doesn’t even eat regularly any more, etc. She already had depression and now she cries all the time because of this. I told her that essentially her debt collectors can go #$^ themselves as a matter of principle, because she never got her item delivered, but I want to know what you guys think and whether she would be okay legally speaking to proceed this way. Your friend owes the money to Amazon because they never disputed the delivery. That debt was incurred, legally sold on to a third party who are now trying to reimburse their expenses. File a police report for harassment and send a copy to both Amazon Germany and the debt collection agency, then move on.
Why didn’t she just pay Amazon back? Or ask the bank to reverse the chargeback if she got the refund twice?
I would just pay back Amazon and tell Riverty that the original debt was paid.
