Perfectly legit and legal if itÔÇÖs in the contract. Chances are your coworker didnÔÇÖt read the contract or knew about it and just chose to complain. Consider it an annual fee out paid monthly weekly or whatever it is theyÔÇÖve signed up for.

The annual amount is 50 lessons @ $10 ea = $500 paid in weekly instalments of $9.62 for the entire year*.
If they decided not to collect any funds over the Christmas shut down, they would have instead charged $10 per week for B
