NC MedAssist: Providing Over-the-Counter Medicine to Those in Need

CHARLOTTE ÔÇö NC MedAssist is a nonprofit pharmacy dedicated to serving individuals across North Carolina who cannot afford over-the-counter medicine. With the aim of improving access to healthcare, the organization holds giveaway events, making it the only pharmacy of its kind in the state to do so.

Operating three days a week, NC MedAssist opens its doors to allow people to shop for the medicine they require. These individuals, who may otherwise struggle to afford healthcare treatments, can now find relief and support through this invaluable resource.

One of the many beneficiaries of NC MedAssist is Joe Shihab, a 70-year-old resident who emphasizes the cost savings he experiences, thanks to the availability of over-the-counter medicine. Furthermore, Shihab recognizes the preventive role this medication plays in keeping him from progressing to the next stage, which would involve more costly prescription medications.
