First and foremost, notify your pharmacy that you never received the controlled medication. They need to know. You may also need to file a police report in order to get that prescription replaced. Since you did not receive it, you also should not be charged for it, or if you were charged for it, then not charged for the replacement. They should not be charging you twice for a medication you are only receiving once.

Longer term, it sounds like you may want to move your script to another, more competently-run pharmacy. Being unable to fulfil a prescription in a timely fashion isn’t illegal (they are not accountable for your care the way your doctor is, broadly speaking), but it is a significant business problem. Take your (and your insurer’s) money somewhere else.

One clarification I would ask the pharmacy is has it been marked as picked up from the actual pharmacy or is marked as filled? The insurance or controlled substance tracking may be saying youÔÇÖve filled (or picked up) medication that you received in the ED or at the hospital pharmacy and is therefore not eligible for a refill at this time. It could also be a problem for your new pharmacy if the old one hasnÔÇÖt ÔÇ£releasedÔÇØ the prescription from their fill queue- which can make it look like a refill has been used or is being used.

Call the pharmacy so they can pull the tapes and see who picked up your Rx.

Call the police to report the theft. Tell them the pharmacy has been alerted. Get police report number.

Call your doctor and explain the theft. Give them your police report number, offer to send the police report over. Have the pharmacist call the doctor and confirm the theft.

Your doctor MAY decide to call in a replacement Rx but it’s not guaranteed. If it was a CII like opiates or stimulants, you’ll likely not get a replacement Rx even with the above evidence. Too many doctors and pharmacies have been scammed by illegal Rx rings that pull stunts like this, and it’s their licence and life on the line if someone ODs on the diverted medication.

The pharmacy did not abandon you there is no legal remedy… choose a different pharmacy next time as it’s just a badly run business or there’s a shortage of your drugs.

You do need to immediately report to the pharmacy that your script hasn’t been picked up yet so they can investigate – it’s not some kind of shady action by the pharmacy because you transferred your prescription they don’t care that much.

  • Blue_foot

I would not trust what the CVS online system says.

It currently gives conflicting information on one of my prescriptions.

You have to unfortunately go to the store and talk to the overworked pharmacist.

  • lionhydrathedeparted

Call the pharmacy ASAP. They need to know to look at surveillance camera footage. Then file a police report.

Once you have the police report go back to your doctor for a new script.

  • Silly_Guard907

Several major drugs are in short supply, and the pharmacists are getting bad news about shipments and dates, and left to face customers. Make sure that didnÔÇÖt happen and that itÔÇÖs not a case of communication breakdown.

  • Lag3rtha

While I agree with e erything here,, I’d like to add one more unmentioned item. It is a pain, but worth it.
Call CVS corporate and make an official notification.

I had that done many moons ago, started a state medicaid reimbursement investigation which many more moons later resulted in a total replacement of the pharmacy staff not working at corporate levels. Don’t ever mess with nurses who have medical insurance background.
    Good luck to you.
