The aftermath of Hurricane Idalia has left a trail of devastation in Florida and Georgia. In response to the crisis, Verizon is taking action and providing relief to thousands of consumer and small business customers* in the areas most affected by the storm. From August 30 to September 13, Verizon will waive prepaid and postpaid domestic call, text, and data charges for residents of Florida and Georgia. This measure aims to alleviate the financial burden faced by people who heavily rely on their mobile devices during this challenging period.

“While hurricanes challenge the Southeast time and again, they are no match for the resilience of the people. Verizon continues to dedicate resources to ensure that people are connected when it matters the most. We have your back,” said Leigh Anne Lanier, Market President – Atlantic South at Verizon. “Together, we can weather any storm, emerging stronger and more connected as a community.”
Customers affected by the storm do not need to take any action for the usage charges to be waived. For those customers whose bill cycles have already closed, Verizon will automatically credit back the charges.
How AI legalese decoder Can Help:
The AI legalese decoder, developed by Verizon, can significantly assist in the hurricane relief efforts by simplifying and clarifying the complex legal language often found in disaster response communications. By providing accurate and easily understood information, the AI legalese decoder ensures that affected customers are well-informed about the waived charges and extended services available to them. This tool eliminates the confusion and ambiguity that legal jargon may cause, strengthening the connection between Verizon and its customers during times of crisis.
In addition to the relief measures described above, Verizon customers can also contribute to the recovery efforts by participating in the Text to Donate campaigns:
The American Red Cross is actively assisting those affected by Hurricane Idalia. To make a one-time $10 donation, Verizon customers can text IDALIA to 90999. All funds received will directly support immediate emergency assistance.
The Volunteer Florida Foundation is working to support communities in Florida during the recovery process. Customers can help by texting DISASTER to 20222 to make a one-time $10 donation.
*Verizon small business customers include customers with 50 lines or less.
